Coaches don’t change the way they coach, what changes, players change! I’ve said this a thousand times players make coaches not the other way around, give me great players over great coaches every day. Now, if folks want to criticize recruiting the wrong portal kids then that’s fair game but Jay has proven he is an elite coach. Ppl saying we need a hitting coach , were they saying that last yr..nope because we had better players

Honest question. Should LSU fire Jay Johnson?

You have a lot to say about others, I’m just curious as your opinion on the matter.

At this moment, no. But if this team doesn’t make a regional this season and doesn’t improve next year, I would think they may have some reason to let him go.

Most of us critical yet reasonable fans agree with this assessment.

This is a mulligan year, but JJ is absolutely coaching for his job next year.

If we can’t make a regional in 2027 it’s time to move on.

The new landscape of College Sports with NIL and the transfer portal is a double edge sword. A lot is being lost when guys play for one year and never form a true team culture. No continuity. Can't develop players. No consistency. Many players signed to these deals have not played the level of competition they now face. Hard to evaluate.

To a point i get it, but listen here smart guy, we lost 18 players off of last yrs team, and then lost another 8 high school signees...thats 26 players not on this yrs team. And you wouldnt think this yr was going to be a struggle??? Come on man, use your brain!

Now you know how us Basketball enthusiasts feel when McCantWin got the passes from the McMen. The only difference McLoser never came close to winning anything much less leaving the cellar.
CJJ knows what he’s doing he’ll come back but picked a bad year to start bitching about NIL & money. If he spent a dime for this portal he owes someone a dime.

Then let’s go to your place of work and criticize the crap out of your every mistake. And no, you aren’t allowed any mulligans

Calling yourself reasonable after the nonsense you’ve been posting is hilarious.

If Ryan Day went 3-9 after winning a national title, he’d be fired. Period. And a tradition rich Ohio State program would be confident they’d find someone better.

Not if he’d won 2 of the last 3 national titles he wouldn’t.

LSU being .500 isn’t the same as going 3-9 in football, and Johnson has 2 titles, not 1.

Comparing across sports is stupid to begin with, but the only comparable coaches to Johnson would be Dabo and Kirby. So go ahead and say with a straight face that they would be fired after a .500 season, because Dabo just went 7-6 with a team that started out ranked top 10.

Can't develop players

This is probably the biggest issue. When you have to rely on so many portal guys, which is just the nature of the sport, you’re also relying on them already being mostly developed and ready to hit the ground running. There’s only so much development and coaching you can do in one offseason. If you miss on those portal guys, which we clearly did this year, you’re going to be in for a long season. A coach has to play with the roster they have. If guys come in lacking basic fundamentals, you’re not going to coach that out of them in 6 months. And some of the stuff we struggle to do is stuff they should have learned a long time ago. A college coach shouldn’t need to teach players at this level basic fundamentals. They should be teaching them the finer points of the game, not starting from ground zero. But so many players are unfortunately at ground zero. If I’m Jay I’d probably evaluate how I’m scouting players

Amusing quip from the poster who spent the last 4 years defending a basketball coach with zero accomplishments.

Your schtick has run its course.

This is absolutely the equivalent of a 3-9 season in football at a blueblood program. It wouldn’t be tolerated

They are 6-14 in the SEC!
