He didnt comment on any other personel but if we are in a 3 man front with him at NG then I wonder what the rest of our front will look like. I'm assuming if we are playing with a NB most snaps this would leave Gaye playing one of the ends with Smith playing the other leaving Ojulari, Penn and Jones completing the front six. Gaye seems more suited to a stand up DE in a 4 man front than a DE in a 3 man front. If they leave the NB out I assume they would bring in Wingo at DE. Nice front against a heavy run team..if there are any of those left.

we’re going to see a lot of looks. Ojulari/Gaye being hybrid EDGE/LB and Smith being somewhat hybrid DT/DE will allow the others to shift around where they fit for whatever look we want to have for situational downs

I’m excited to see the defense.

We have some serious guys in the DL.

You’re probably gonna see Gaye Roy Smith and then BJ as a standing edge rusher. But I assume BJ will move around a bit

A nose can still be called a nose when he’s a shade or a 1 in an even front. It doesn’t mean lsu is making him a head up 0 and they are running an odd front

In one of the practice videos from last week I'm 99% sure I saw Ojulari running drills with the LB's.

I think BJ stands up a lot this year.

I think they are going to be running a lot of 3 man fronts

He’s saying that a DE in a 3-man front is traditionally a bigger DE that can eat up blocks, i.e. Rashard Lawrence. Since Gaye is a long and lean DE with speed, he’s better suited to stand up and explode off the line/rush the passer.

We’re not a traditional 3-4.

None of them are there to eat blocks.

Dont get me wrong, I think Roy will be a handful at NG regardless of the technique the DC will use. I guess I am just wondering what the composition of our front will be. IT seems likely we will be multiple as we have the personel for it.

I think you’re gonna see a lot of this 2-4-5 look with Gaye and Ojulari as your stand up ends and this 3-3-5 look as more of our base package with Ojulari in the Viper position

Don’t forget Guillory, though I assume he will be rotating with Roy at nose in a 3 man front.

Regardless of whether it’s a 3- or 4-man front for our base defense, you’re probably not going to see both Gaye and Ojulari standing up at the same time outside of obvious passing situations. So I imagine Gaye will be playing with his “hand in the dirt” most of the time either way, if he’s going to play opposite of Ojulari.

To play the 3-4 you need excellent line backers.. I hate to be negative and ya can downvote but right now this team is built for a 4-3. Just saying

I think this team is gonna play 5 dbs on the field 95% of the time. But i think if you run a traditional 3-4, you got Ojulari, Penn, Jones, and Baskerville. I think that’s a pretty solid 4. Roy/Smith/Gaye at DL or even slide Wingo as an end or put Gulliory and NG and slide Roy over… 4-3 you got Ojulari/Roy/Smith/Gaye and Penn/Jones/Baskerville at LB. I think they will be just fine whatever they run. I got a feeling we are gonna see just about every look possible

In this era of football, especially college, they’ll never have 3 LBs on the field

To me, Gaye looks like a 4-3 DE with his hand in the dirt. What you wrote above looks more like Ojulari, to me.

could see that a giving oline fits, although he was getting after it on the interior too.
