Just curious why you would think that. That quote is a few months old

He agrees he should wear #7. Definitely not the qb and not the kicker. Can't really think of another flashy guy, everyone on the roster pretty much needs to make their mark and show their talent out there, all are unnowns for what they can do on the field in college play

Do not care, he was agreat tiger and Giles will be too IMO. Eric Reid however can suck a plate of dicks, that fricking communist POS

Leonard Fournette got it as a true freshmen. Adams is wrong and so are you.

Personally, I think that the #7 and #18 stuff is way overrated. I want my memories of great LSU players to involve their numbers. I will always associate #3 with "All eyes on 3" Kevin Faulk. #72 will always be Glen Dorsey. #7? Peterson, Honey Badger, Fournette, etc.
I understand #18 to some degree, but not #7. I can see the how honoring Chucky Mullins RIP at Ole Miss by being awarded the #38, but LSU is essentially honoring Matt Mauck. It just seems too forced.
Not to mention that it does not help jersey sells. Instead of buying a #5 or #32 or #10 jersey each season, people just buy #7 jersey and wear it every year.

believe the NCAA changed the rules on being able to change what numbers you sell each year to match your best players, has to do with the obannon lawsuit iirc. For instance, UT only sells #16, #98, and #14 now every year. We sell #1, #7, and #18. Same thing with Alabama, they only sell jerseys of famous former players. #7 being used for a good current player each year actually probably helps jersey sales given the current parameters.

Because he just commented on it today when delly tweeted said quote today

This number 7 shite is childish. Why give a rats arse who wears that number? Personally I think it is Bert Jones and Patrick Peterson who were iconic figures in that jersey.
After Peterson, Tyrann wore it then it became a big deal... I don't see it. A player should wear their own number from high school to college to the pros if they can control it/good enough and make that number stand out!!
For Adams to come out is stupid and only creates negative vibes. He is a Jet and a pro, be one. I am sure if Giles was honored by the current "LSU players" (not Jets, NFL, or past players) to wear that number , as they find it a tribute, then so be it
Who wears 7 and 18 should go away as I see no big deal. However, if the team likes the way it honors the past great players, then I guess I can support it. But 18 has to go, enough with one number passed down

#7 used to decide who got his number. Has it changed to a team vote? If so.. dumb.
Posted on 2/27/18 at 5:35 am to Lester Earl
Honestly, who would be worthy of wearing #7 on this squad. They say giles has been tough....we shall see.

Tell me the history behind it, who started it and when it started? Who was #7 in 2012 and 2013? Why did Fournette say he decided to wear #7?

I'll repeat what I asked another guy. Tell me the history behind it, who started it and when it started? Who was #7 in 2012 and 2013? Why did Fournette say he decided to wear #7?

Geez, you’re dumb.
Because I know the history behind the number 7 and the number 18 (which has been a thing since MaucK/Hester)?

It's more of "thing" to me than the #18
OK, looking at the history, thought, it seems that's not the case to the team.

as Bert Jones has for ever consecrated the number 7
I'm a big fan of Jones but that number has passed on to any number of mediocre players, been vacant multiple times, and been given to multiple players in several years.
Alan Risher wore the number when I attended LSU, he did it proud before it was taken over by Steve Rehage. Since RIsher it's been worn by such household names as:
Steve Rehage
Chris Moock
Brian Desselles
James Gillyard
Michael Shultz
Jimmy Walker
Paul Rushing

Please don’t tell me you’re saying Gilyard is at Jones’ level.
Rondel Mealy, Steve Rehage, Pat Lyons, maybe even Trev Faulk, okay, but not Jones.
We really need to develop that sarcasm font.

The team voted for JG. That's all that needs to be said.

Yep. But why couldn't that be a vote for team captain? If the player is that admired by his team mates then vote him in as a captain and put the little C on his shoulder. BTW,how many "special" numbers will it take before they get to no numbers are "special"?

I feel the same way. He hasn't earned it IMO. But at the end of the day this is voted on by the players I assume so we don't really have a say.
Neither Fournette or Chark earned it either, but they got it and played great. Chark had less than 700 yards and 6 tds total in 3 years, Fournette got it straight out of high school. Giles had more yards and TDs in one year than both of them combined before they got it.
I thought a guy like Greedy or White would have gotten it (White likely gets 18), but there is a possibility that Giles is even better than Greedy.
