Unless the victim had a weapon and was threatening, male or female, hitting them is inexcusable.

couple of minor points
It was a six-person photographic lineup - mills wasn't there.
They have now taken the split lip and stitches out of the story.

The victim, who notified authorities, stated she was at Mills’ apartment complex when she knocked on Mills’ door looking for her friend. Mills opened the door then closed it in the victim’s face so she knocked again. When no one came to the door the victim walked away down the hall. She stated she heard someone say something to her while walking away and when she turned around Mills punched her in the mouth. She fell to the pavement and was unconscious briefly, according to the report. The victim required 4 stitches in her lip as a result of the attack.

She turned around and Mills punched her once in the mouth, knocking her to the ground and causing her to lose consciousness.

Glad you piled it on twice, because your sarcasm was not detectable the first time. This wasn't the situation and you damned well know it.
I know this wasn't the situation. I was just trying to point out how ridiculous it is to say there is no circumstance where it is justifiable to hit a woman.
That being said, none of us really know what happened. Let's wait for all the facts. Indefinite suspension is the right decision.

This story seems odd for some reason......there has to be more to it.

I think it would be very easy to pick out mills in a line up.

Problem is, even if it turns out that circumstances were not as they seem and the charges are lowered to a mis-demeanor or even dropped, there's no way it happens fast enough to prevent his career from being derailed or at least seriously damaged. That is why these guys have to act as if they're driving a Bentley in a smash up derby arena. I'm sure they get counseling when they come on board, but how can you get these kids to understand what they're risking when they react to situations whether provoked or not.

He punched a woman in the face, what more do you really need to know?

It should seem odd to someone that can make rational decisions.

Maybe like some of the circumstances and what really happened that night other than the claim of some chick? Nah we don't need to know any of that, let's just jump to conclusions and form our own opinions about everything when we have no clue what we are talking about other than a story.

Besides whether or not he actually did what the girl alleged?

Allegedly. That's an important piece of info for you to remember.

Unfortunately people do dumb things. Guys with great careers, hot wives, and healthy kids throw it away because they get hooked on drugs or start banging the secretary when they have a hot wife at home. Sometimes people do things that just don't make sense.
