Well deserved!

quote:

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU right-hander Jaden Hill was named SEC Baseball Freshman of the Week Monday by the league office. Hill, a product of Ashdown, Ark., enjoyed a tremendous collegiate debut on Sunday against Air Force, defeating the Falcons by allowing just one run on four hits in five innings with one walk and eight strikeouts. Hill struck out the first three batters he faced in the top of the first inning and limited Air Force to just a double and three singles over the course of the five-inning outing, which was composed of 71 pitches (44 for strikes). Hill, who was drafted as a high school senior last summer by the St. Louis Cardinals, is the cousin of former LSU centerfielder Cedrick Harris, the starting centerfielder for the Tigers’ 2000 national championship team.

Didn't realize he was related to Ced.

Good job, young man.

Dude was nails. He's gonna be nasty if he can hit his spots and develop that off-speed pitch more.

LSU probably had 1A and 1B in the race.

Legit concern is him doing too much too soon. Arm fatigue is an issue with all frosh pitchers. We need him at the back end of the season more than the front end. I hope Mainieri is smart but our luck with Frosh pitchers lately has not been good.

He looked the part. Impressive if he really just learned how to throw a curveball after he got on campus. Bet he can hit, too

This is why I don't think you see one Fri-Sat-Sun rotation set for the entire year.

We could see Hill and Marceaux skip starts on the weekend with Henry and Walker taking their place. Plus we still have two former starters building their way back from injury that could eat innings on the weekends later this year.

His fastball, curveball combo reminds me a lot of Alex Lange. I didn't believe it when McDonald said he didn't have a breaking ball until getting to LSU. That thing is nasty. Throw in his good changeup and he has everything you want in a starter for the next few years. I'm trying to pump the brakes and keep saying "it was only one game" but I can't help it. The kid is an absolute stud.

If this is possible, it would be great. If Henry can prove to be a legitimate Weekend starter, then once Gilbert and Hilliard come back,
Hess
Marceaux
Hill
Walker
Hilliard
Henry
Gilbert
Are all arms that have either started or can start in SEC play with success for the ones that have already started. That is 7 sec starter quality pitchers. Regardless of team, that has got to be one of the deepest pitching staffs of all time
