re: It’s going to 8 teams sooner rather than later

I agree.
I think it should be expanded to 6 and have the P5 champions and the highest ranked G5 champion. The ranking of each champion will determine their seed. This eliminates any controversy as to who should get in and the media can get their rocks off by still having a reason to rank teams.
To address the issue of ND and other independents, if they finish in the top 6 after conference championship weekend then they will bump out the lowest ranked P5 champion. I would personally like for them to join a conference and play by everyone else’s rules, but I don’t see that happening.
The way it’s set up now, their is no way for smaller schools in the G5 to have a chance at a title. You have the argument for Bama being that wins/losses matter, not SoS, when comparing to OSU, but then say SoS matters, not wins/losses when it comes to UCF this year.

Keep at 4. Eliminate the committee and bring back the BCS computer formula.
you do realize that 2/3 of the BCS forumula was human polls. And those poll voters take far less time and do far less analysis than the committee (I'd argue human pollsters do virtually no analysis).
And the BCS formula is tweaked every year, so even the BCS formula creators understand it's a flawed formula. One year, margin of victory matters, the next year it doesn't. Etc, etc.
I'll take a solumn committee that seriously analyzes and debates the teams for weeks, over a silly BCS formula mostly driven by human polls.
Why is it that we're all content with the March Madness committee, yet can't stand the football committee (which are basically the same thing)? Could it be that we just don't like the result?

What if the computers put Bama in?
So be it. My opinion has little nothing to do with Alabama or anyone else. It has to do with I don't agree with 13 people going into a room and deciding who gets in based upon their opinion.

I like 11 the best. Five P5 champs and six invitees. All P5 conference champions get an automatic bid and a first round bye. This would bring back tremendous meaning to conference championships and allow the champions the week off they earned. The six invitees would be determined by the old BCS formula and play each other in round 1. This would leave eight teams alive for round 2. Round 2 opponents would be determined by seeding.
I'm for 16 without a CC game, but this is very interesting. I like it.
