I mean…. were we in rebuilding mode in 2020 and 2021?

I am pretty sure we were in full disaster mode

Yep. Shouldn't be the case, but over the last 25 years, we have been a 8-9 win team with every 3rd or 4th year competing for a title.

2003-2007-2011-2015 (7-0 before train went off tracks) -2019

Thanks to Kelly screwing up his hires, we have essentially been set back 2 years.

So our realistic window to have that break out season will be 2026-2027. When Underwood and Co are Sophomores and Juniors.

Well, we are likely to be in rebuild mode on offense
oh no. That means we will be wildly inconsistent.

We won’t notice a difference. Unless we can run block. We will have receivers that are dropping balls they shouldn’t, a QB that panics and turns it over and a talented back riding the pine, because he missed a block in practice.

Ole Miss, Aggie, Bama will go out and buy three All SEC caliber players, we will be talking about how Gabe Reliford will be great in 2026, and why isn’t McKinley playing.

8-4 is not the floor. If this team loses this weekend we will lose one more game to finish out the season.

if the team responds and wins Saturday, I would actually expect us to win the remaining two home games.

Next year if it is the same as this year then there are bigger issues at hand.

Now do it for every SEC coach in the last 20 years. Losing less than 3 games is extremely hard in the SEC. Outside of Saban no one does it consistently.

You do that if it interests you, I was simply responding to a post saying the 9-3 is more the norm than not for LSU.

No. Losers think they’re going to lose to Bama every year because they’re named Bama. I’m more concerned about A&M owning us.

After beating UGA this year - those boosters will throw the bank at Kiffin next year and they'll be reloaded.

LSU has been in rebuild mode since 2020 with no end in sight. I like to call this the never ending rebuild.

Some problem will happen

We fix it

Another problem takes its place

Next year we’ll lose to Clemson, Bama, Ole Miss, and maybe one more.

Next year Dart is gone and if OM makes the playoffs then Lane will get some tempting job offers…

Arkansas is N-O-T beating Texas, and with the current trajectory, 3-5 on a five-game skidmark seems more plausible than 6-2 and a playoff birth

That's correct, but I'm curious- why "shouldn't be the case"? I mean, other than we love LSU and want them to win every game. "I want them to" isn't a valid reason.

That was something you just can't predict. I don't hold Kelly responsible for that.
We have a new OC, nobody really wanted Denbrock when he came, but it wasn't a screw-up. We chose to continue his (very successful) system, and the 1st year coordinator has done ok. Needs to get better, but continuing his scheme means the players and recruits will fit what we run.

As for defense- some people who know, know what really happened, and you absolutely can't prepare for that. Just a nightmare one-in-a-million, combined with the fact that the other coaches couldn't pick up the slack, and thus neglected their own position groups too.
It's telling that Kelly's response was to hire MORE defensive coaches this year, and that those guys have more overlap in what they do.
But- yeah, that set the defense back a couple years, no denying that.
