Were getting after each other in practice and at the end of the season we had 2 first team All Americans. My question with Ricks being a early enrollee and Flott getting full reps can we be better or have no drop off with Fulton leaving. We have some other stud Wr's to make them better also. We are just reloading at DBU

Teams don't usually have a Fulton caliber player leave, and be "better off" but if any school can, it's LSU.

I know Ricks was super highly rated, but I don’t know that he’ll be ready to day 1. Stingley’s don’t come around very often.

If Flott gets stronger, he has everything he needs to be a starting corner for LSU.

If Rick's is the real deal (not Stingley obviously but still ready to play as a freshman) and Flott continues to improve does Vincent start to lose playing time as the season goes on?

It looks like this year will be deeper than last year but probably a little less talented in the top end because of inexperience.

I am not hating on Vincent but I would like to see Flott or Ricks as that third down nickelback. Vincent just scares the hell out of me in coverage or maybe its him playing 10 yards off the receiver

He did more off coverage later in the season at safety and played a lot better.

Stingley will take the Fulton role. You need someone to fill Stingley’s spot. There is a reason that Stingley led the league in all the categories he did. People were avoiding Fulton and going at Stingley. Next year they will avoid Stingley and go after whoever is on the other side.

KV is more a straight line speed guy. So playing him back and letting him see where the ball is going allows him to use his speed to get where the ball is. When he's up and has to react to every movement the receiver makes and get his head around, it handicaps him by taking away his biggest strength which is his ability to close on the ball.

We start next year with an all American at reciever and DB. How many teams can say that?

This. This 100x.

I'm not sure if many people know this, but because Kary Vincent is a track athlete, he has tighter hips than Fulton, Stingley, Delpit, etc. That's why, if you watch him play the nickel/slot corner during most of the season, he'd get beat by double moves, head fakes, and hard cutting routes because his hips can't sink and shift as fast as the other DBs. At nickel it seemed like he had his eyes in the wrong spot quite a bit, but he eventually got better at it as the season progressed.

Putting him at free safety in a 3 deep look or cover 1 is his ideal spot. That cross-field pick against Oklahoma is what I had been waiting for all year from him, I knew he could cover the field like that and always thought free safety should have been his spot. Had Delpit been fully healthy and in or near the box 90% of the time with Kary back deep, I seriously doubt that LSU would have given up so many busted plays.

I think it’s unreasonable to expect Flott and Ricks to step in and be Fulton right away. Of course it’s possible however, as we’ve seen Stingley and Greedy both do it as freshman.

You guys are nuts regarding Vincent. That guy had a great year, and it wasn’t just at the end, it was all year long. And sure, he plays off the receiver some times, but he has to, or else we’re not disguising the coverage. Your outside corners can play bump and run (which is a lot easier to do than what Vincent is doing) and you can still be in cover two, or something with help. But if Vincent comes to the line you’ve tipped your hand.

Vincent is a stud, and he’ll have a nice career in the NFL. In five years you’re going to be using Vincent to brag about NFLSU.

The LSU D will be better next year than it was this year.
