It was so fricking hokey as well. The part about him being in the press box trying to write a story and not being able to because he couldn't write about LSU and then the other reporter hands him a story that he wrote for John Ed because he just knew something was wrong with him and decided to write TWO stories ( one for his publication and then another just for John Ed)

Yeah right, fricking bullshite.

The dude is a damn pussy.

I was told not to waste my time bc it is said to not have much about LSU or LSU football and more about a whiny guy trying to cope with life after football.

I loved it. More about the history of John Ed Bradley and his problems at and after LSU than LSU Football but still a great read.

I've never read it. My dad, an ex player, did. He said the guy was "kind of full of shite", but it was alright.

Agreed. I can understand having trouble adjusting to life after football but this guy seemed determined to be miserable.

Yeah, I killed one of them "misanthropes" up in Wyoming - like a female antelope or something.

It might be a worthwhile read. A lot of college students find it difficult to leave college and enter the real world. Leaving behind a persona might be a reason why Brett Favre had difficulty retiring. When the persona fades, the real you is whom you have to deal with on a one-to-one basis. There are no more cheerleaders or fans telling you how proud they are of you. When college ends, there is often a time of grieving and uncertainty about the future. Some people live for college and the parties and the fact that they can hide from the real world for 4 or 5 years while appearing to have freedom from outside responsibilites. Some people never find their way out.

I think she was my 9th grade teacher. But I think her last name is spelled "thorpe."

Seriously, John Ed is a hell of a writer and was a nice guy when I knew him thirty five years ago. I am sure he gets a lot of jackass fans who don't really get his style of writing, which is deeply authentic and very personal. The man exposes a lot of himself in what he writes. That takes huge balls. I'll take that over someone who throws around "misanthrope" on the Rant.

It's funny watching how passionate people get any time a discussion of this book comes up.

I thought it was a decent enough read, nothing more nothing less.

I can't fathom why so many feel so strongly one way or the other about it.

It's LSU's version of The Catcher in the Rye.

It's a bit too melancholy for my liking.

It's pretty writing that is set after LSU with an attitude about it and depression. If you're a fan it's worth the read, just don't expect too much.

I would think that a poster with the username JudgeHolden, nay any poster who would even know the character of JudgeHolden, would be able to come back with something stronger than "frick you back."

Is this kindergarten?
