Had the book recommended to be me by a friend. Should I read it?

No, you shouldn't read it.

Unless you like football, LSU, LSU football, great writing and passionate story telling. In which case read it.

I read it and really liked it. It's sentimental and sappy, but I enjoyed it. If you ever read his piece that was included in the SI Commemorative Edition for the 2003 National Championship, it's sort of like that as a book.

The LSU parts of it are good.

Trouble is he spends almost the entire book opining about not being an LSU football player any longer even though he is clearly a misanthrope and pretty much a jerk to anyone who tries to connect with him.

But again, the LSU parts are pretty good.

I bought it and read it, and was entertained by it. JEB ain't no Faulkner, but he does a great job in the book talking about his time at LSU and Coach Mac.

Do it.

It's not really about LSU football.

It's a personal memoir about his own struggles and more or less "how hard it is to be a famous LSU football."

I didn't care for it.

The LSU parts are really cool to read. Unfortunately, the last two-thirds is him whining about how hard it is to be him after his eligibility was done...college athlete, really good writer, girls throwing themselves at him, chance to be a college coach...must've been a bummer to be him.

Yes read it. Some parts of the book slow down and has no connection to LSU football but is worth reading

I'm in my mid-40s, so I remember Mac as the coach and lots of those players are in my earliest memories of LSU football - so, for me, it was a great book. I really enjoyed and recommend it to others.

However, it is dark. Some have described it as whiny, but I don't find it to be such, but it is very emotionally charged. There are some spots of redemption.

It is my highest recommendation for a non-fiction book to any college football fan, LSU fans particularly.

wow there are some real winners in this thread

FWIW many are off base on what the book is about

LSU was the top for John Ed. When it ended, it was not the easiest transition to becoming hi own man and not a Tiger anymore

Great read, you'll enjoy it if your older than 23

I'm quite a bit older than 23, Igor.

The fact remains Bradley bitched and moaned through the entire book. His descriptions of himself, his thoughts and interactions with people are textbook anti-social, narcissist

Lacour, you've said exactly what was on my mind....it felt like a pity party to me...

here was a man that had doors open for him that most of us would have to force our way through...and he whines about it....
