I would disagree and note that it seems to be an expression acute grief and depression with reflections to a time of narcisistic living and possibly delusinons of grandure.

listen up Mrs. Bradley. people are allowed to have differing opinions about what makes a good read. Quit whining just like your son because some people didn't like his shitty book.

To the OP, you will enjoy it if you don't make the mistake of believing that it has anything but a tangential connection to LSU football. It's more of a book about the author's struggle to be someone other than a Tiger and to make something of himself more than being a former Tiger. He could find no other identity within himself.

While I have to partially agree with some of the other posts on the thread, I would have to add that I don't think it reads as whiny or narcissistic. Self-deprecating--yeah. Low self-esteem--yeah. No identity or grounding--yeah. Self absorbed-yeah. Not narcissistic.

The LSU parts of it are good.

Trouble is he spends almost the entire book opining about not being an LSU football player any longer even though he is clearly a misanthrope and pretty much a jerk to anyone who tries to connect with him.

But again, the LSU parts are pretty good.

THIS!!!!!!!!

I thought the book was depressing as hell.

John Ed went to my high school, although he is a little older than I am. He and his family are great people. His father was a terrific man too. I have followed John Ed's career since his first book (Tupelo Nights) and I have rarely been disappointed. Yes, buy it and read it.

Maybe you'll pass on judging others on the thread on whether they like the book then, and why they do or don't?

Not everyone has to agree with you and your particular group of Rantards.
