It is time to bring back the computers...

BCS ended in 2014. Bringing in AI and computation advances makes computers models much more dependable. Hire the best in the business, create models with different weights to provide a variety of results, and factor those in the same way the BCS did. Computer models will ignore status and tradition and just go based on facts and statistics.

I agree and have been saying this for a while now!!
This 12-team garbage is a mess.
It reminds me of how the powers that be insisted on extending the College Baseball Season and pushing the CWS out to help accommodate the Yankee teams, which has not helped any of them!!

It amazes me that when they had a 4 team playoff, they though expanding it would fix teams crying about getting left out. Now that we have a 12 team playoff, teams 13, 14 and 15 will cry

I mean, people argue about bubble teams in the baseball and basketball tournaments. At least we won’t see an undefeated conference champion get left out again.

Will never happen. The committee was formed so the networks could control matchups much more easily.

Agreed... Greed... Follow the money.

It feels like all but 5 teams get into the basketball tournament and 30 teams gripe about the selection process. For better or worse, this shite attracts viewers and people love to argue. So this shite is all good for business

What they really need to get rid of is the top four seeds being tied to the conference champions. I mean, Boise State and Arizona State getting byes, ridiculous.

Yeah, the other conferences colluded and got rid of SEC dominance.

12 teams with this seeding, but rankings based on computer.

Exactly.
In the poll era 2 might have a beef.
In the BCS era 3 might have a complaint.
With a 4 team playoff, 5 might have a legitimate gripe.
With 12, the 13th team can whine all they want, but they don't have an argument. Bama shouldn't have gotten pimp slapped by two different 6-6 teams. Miami shouldn't have lost to unranked Cause while on the bubble

According to this site, here are the top 12 BCS rankings.
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Texas
5. Ohio State
6. Penn State
7. Tennessee
8. Indiana
9. Boise State
10. Arizona State
11. Alabama
12. SMU
Basically, the only major difference is Clemson gets left out. But, due to conference champs being an auto-bid, Clemson has to be in. The only real gripe here is between Bama and SMU. Neither team is winning it all anyways, so it's a pointless argument.

If we are talking fantasies..Create 7 divisions with 10 teams each and make everyone play a round robin. Conference winners and 2nd place get auto bids. Drop the CCG's. Invite 2 G5 conference champs for a 16 team field. Each division should be created with geography and long standing or historical rivalries in mind, but also spreading things out too, so that you don't have 2-3 killer divisions with 4-5 weak ones.

I always wondered when they went to the 4 team playoff, why they didn’t keep the model of the BCS and pick the top 4 from there.

AI requires a significant amount of data to produce good results. There are very few data points to compare teams from different conferences with current scheduling practices and expanded conference schedules. That doesn’t mean humans do any better with limited data points, but computers aren’t really a solution.

Eh. Remember when some computers had 2019 Ohio state as the number 1 team at the end of the season/playoffs even after lsu decimated every other team on their way to a national championship.
Computers aren't "guaranteed" to get it right, nor will the selection still not be controversial.
There's always going to be controversy no matter who or what is doing the selecting.
