re: It is seriously time to view our options and look at leaving the SEC

The real clusterfrick in all this is the bowl system and their alliances.
If you want a radical idea, leaving the SEC is not it.
Instead, the SEC should move to expand to thirty or so of the highest profile teams in the country, then follow the NFL model. Have four team divisions set up were you play everyone in your division once and rotate the others. This would keep the schedule at twelve games and maintain the annual rivalries.
Now comes the fun part. Screw the bowls and have a twelve team playoff, again according to the NFL playoff model with a "College Superbowl".

12 team playoff would be outstanding. The bowl system was so much better back in the day where you actually had traditional New Year's Day bowls. It actually meant something back then. Way to many teams are involved in bowls today vs how it was back in the day. Purdue at 6-6 from a down big ten going to bowl explains the shitty reality.

To the Rantards: please note it is these kind of posts that make the rest of TD look down on you. You are best off ignoring him and anchoring the topic.

Serious question, do you people speak in public like you post on here? Do you tell all your friends that we should bounce from the SEC? And they all just nod in agreement or something? Genuinely curious

It's like asking them to consider jumping off a cliff. It's easy to see from anyone who has an IQ over room temperature that this is a terrible, terrible idea. It would be asking for LSU to go on a downward spiral as a program and make you look like cowards.

No need. I actually have the ability to recognize a completely idiotic idea when I see one and ignore it.
I wonder if some of our fans have thumbs yet.

We should all hope they don't speak publicly.

Now this is one I've not seen before. Not that I'm advocating, but I am saying hey, good visioning of one (radical) possibility other than chucking the whole SEC - and for... what?

quote:Gotta say I agree with this 100%. Bowls used to be sort of like a "reward" for a good season. And a chance for intersectional rivalries to be put on display. And at the end, there were bragging rights for the winner that could last a good 9-12 months between seasons. Now they're almost an entitlement. And most today are all but meaningless.

IF Florida would join with LSU to look at any other conference then I am all for it.
Why??
1). It's free to look
2). Perhaps things that need to change in the SEC would
3). Timing. Now is the time with all the conference re alignment goings on. The SEC without Florida and LSU would suck.
If we cannot have a level playing field in the SEC then it may be time to go.

Florida would laugh at you idiots if you brought this idea up to them.
Hell, your own athletic department would ask you to stop supporting the program if they knew you were this stupid.

If we leave let's take auburn with us, they hate Bama more than us.

Here are a few questions I have for the lunatics considering such a ridiculous idea.
What schools would inherit the lion share of the in-state recruits?
What would stop Tulane from joining the SEC if we left?
How long do you think it would take for LSU sports to return to its pre-21st. century performance in football?

Wow, this is almost word for word what my brother told me the other day of what he thought should happen. Crazy.
Quick question: Is your name Josh?
