My only guess is that recruiting guys from far away is really only a viable plan if you are consistently in the hunt. Home seems to be much farther away when the chips are down.

Say he failed a couple tests he would have to sit a couple games next year, right? Or, like Savion Smith (allegedly), he could leave and be eligible immediately and not sit.

Yes.
But who knows, maybe they hate it for whatever reasons.
COVID has also taken a lot of joy out of being a college athlete off the field as well, if you know what I mean. Most years these guys walk around like kings into house parties and bars. This year I bet they've felt a bit bored and lonely.
Just a hunch.
Grass obviously isn't greener as this is happening everywhere, but these are dumb, immature kids we're talking about.

Family and Ricks had a conversation with Coach O and they are mulling it over. No decision has been made.
