re: It all goes back to poor OL play and no run game

It’s really puzzling how bad it’s been and adding a guy didn’t do anything for us. I still think we have a design flaw, we’re too spread to block the box with 5 or 6. Our TEs don’t block at all, the play when Green was called for holding he and Sharpe were double teaming a slot corner and couldn’t move him. This offense is very old and very vanilla.

isn’t coached well
- Offensive design doesn’t allow you to block the box
- Play Calling is as bad as I’ve ever seen (and I witnessed Carl Smith of the New Orleans Saints)
This is what I don't get about the design. It's like they can't even check into an easy run against a 5 man box.
I absolutely hate the scheme. There is no misdirection. Sloan doesn't set anything up. The o line can't block. Nuss sucks against any kind of pressure
It really does hurt having a qb that can't escape or step up any.

However the OL cant move anyone (see last week vs SeLa) and we can’t establish the run. We aren’t physical. BK’s teams here just aren’t physical (see 3rd and less than 1).
I mean it was pretty damn clear last year there was coaching issues. Anyone recall any other offensive lines with 4 NFL players on it that sucked that bad? Will Campbell looks just fine run blocking this yr.

I’ll be honest, it’s a Christmas miracle we are even entertaining being a contender this year. Had Austin Thomas not saved the fricking program with the portal and fundraising this team would seriously be 4-8 this season.
I genuinely wonder what the actual frick brian Kelly does. He came into the season peacocking about this offense

Correct. Last year's line full of draft picks and this year's bunch look exactly the same when it comes to run plays. They all get zero push and get stood up/driven back. The coaching is pathetic.

On its face this offense is throw heavy based on the formations we use. Most of your modern spreads have taken after the Meyer model where you’re turning older offenses into SG so most of those traditional principals and schemes remain. Kelly’s style is more of the first gen spread on the conservative side. A lot like Clemson’s for example which doesn’t lend itself to a lot of versatility. It’s an old, stock spread offense, it’s easy to defend.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall listening to Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding roast this scheme.

It’s a shame what we’ve looked like the last 2 years. Kelly needs to hire someone he can trust and let him do his thing. We need to get away from Kelly’s offense.

You heard Kiffin right after the game and in the press conf. He talked about how good our players are. He’s telling you our coach sucks without saying it verbatim.

It’s true. Even my level headed ole miss friends felt Lane Kiffin would have beaten ole miss bf 14-17 points with our personnel.

DCs have learned how to defend most spread offenses. The last couple years they’ve made a big jump in defending even the best ones. Ours is ancient relative to most so they’ve got us dead to rights outside of our talent advantages.

We've had poor OL play/run game for the entirety of Kelly's tenure.
Jayden just masked the inefficiencies.

Every team ole miss has played they have given up damn near 170 yards or more rushing ...and they have have played some crappy teams..its definitely scheme and coaching

La Tech has a better o line than LSU……it’s pathetic that we can’t get good linemen…..who is evaluating the o line talent…..they need to be fired….
Posted on 9/28/25 at 4:15 am to Tigerstark
Yeah. But a bad o line can get a qb hurt and the injury can hurt his mechanics….

Here's the thing about Nuss's performance. We fans don't know if Nuss is truly hurt or to what extent. However, the staff and Nuss do! Therefore if he struggles passing the ball, the play calling HAS to be more balanced with running the ball. Also, Nuss knows what passes he can make and the ones he can't. Its on him to own up to what he's struggling with so the staff can adjust.
All that is before discussing Van Buren and what role he can play.

Which goes back to a terrible OC hire

Agree, Davis has to go, should’ve happened already.

“Complimentary” coaching seems to be our biggest issue.
Our Heisman candidate is playing absolutely horrible and even with a bad o-line he still shouldn’t be 0 for forever throwing the deep ball.
Kiffin absolutely owned Brian Kelly.
Sage, Womack and Diggs made smart transfer decisions, obviously.
