This is exactly what is happening. You either disrupt it at the line of scrimmage or you roll up a safety. Or slide the linebacker. Very very hard to stop with a good QB.

So 1. the reason you se NWSt. Vandy Alabama and LSU do it successfully is because it is a very good play, and basically what you shoould do when a team is blitzing.
2. it is a lot easier said than done for our MLB to make it over to pretect a slant.
You can't blitz without sacrificing something in coverage. You are banking on you getting to the QB before they figure out where you sacrifices.
Just some thoughts for the "we should blitz more" crowd.

Is rushing 4 blitzing now?
Because we call one of our DEs a LB (or Buck or whatever) now, we’re still rushing 4.
I always understood “blitz” to essentially mean sending 5 or more. Is that wrong?
Not mocking you. Asking out of genuine curiosity.

Maybe - let’s see if they can stay healthy enough to string a couple games together. Hopefully they’re done with the injury bug.

I woudln't consider 4 a blitz in our system. We almost always bring the BOLB.
But i assumed the OP meant when we bring additional rushers, because just the normal 4 shouldn't great this issue (anymore so than a slant is usually pretty hard to defend if the QB is getting the ball out fast enough.)

This is very one-play specific. Your OP could have been one sentence - The opponent is taking advantage of our linebackers missing assignments.

Nope, I'm just too stoopid to have noticed. Not changing it now.
As far as if it's blitzing when you bring 4... I assumed so as the base defense is a 3-4. But I see the point. Perhaps it's not blitzing, just bringing 4.
IMO the biggest reason they're not getting pressure is because everyone we play knows they have to get the ball out of the QB's hand in under 2 seconds, or he will get sacked. So teams runs slants, quick outs, screens etc. to negate the pressure.
The point of the post was to say that the defense is not taking away the oppositions primary read. That will be the reason we win or lose against Florida and Bama.

I'm thinking that we didn't get great pressure on the qb against Texas was because of a well coached, talented o line.
The other games, I'm hoping the lack of pressure is because of our d line being injured.
Just a thought. I mean think about how we looked in the one game where we had both kc and rl the whole game. Against GA southern rl had a strip sack, and in the Texas game, he was a beast for the quarter or so he played.
I'll be worried if we're healthy and don't get a pass rush at all with 4 .

Need press coverage from CBs, gives pass rush help. Disrupting routes has to shake the QB at least somewhat.
