Georgia and Texas A and M are storm troopers. We are the bad new bears.
We need elite athletes.

Timely hitting is but one glaring deficiency of this team. The horrendous play in the field has proved to be even more costly

Manieri's 1st season was 29-26-1.

Yes-- it's inexcusable, and not getting any better.

Also--

• hit batters
• wild pitches
• passed balls
• players nearly decapitated taking a swing
• pitchers throwing batting practice in critical situations

Yes it’s a horrible team and shocking that revered JJ could put a product like this on the field.

Not going to rehash all the known reasons or the pumper excuses, but it’s on JJ to fix this fast. He’ll be given all the resources, but if we’re struggling this time next year it’s time to start asking serious questions. The elite coaches don’t fall this far.

That 2011 team was actually pretty good. They had only one loss going into SEC play, and swept a highly ranked Cal State Fullerton team in the box. 36-20 overall, 13-17 SEC, #23 RPI on Selection Monday. And they went full Brenda Lee the last four weekends of the regular season-- comin' on strong -- swept Kentucky, won one of three @ Alabama, swept Tennessee, won two of three @ Miss. State. I was thoroughly shocked hearing that LSU was not included in the tournament on that Monday

Smoke Laval's big sin came wholly as a result of following a living legend in Skip Bertman. And his overall record in five seasons would have been regarded as one of much success at most schools-- NCAA superregional, CWS, CWS, NCAA regional, did not make an NCAA regional with a 35-24 record (14-18 SEC). That last season was his worst as the Tiger boss and yet still is much better a season than our current trajectory seems to point to.

Smoke also benefited from a roster left behind by Skip. He peaked with Skip's players. He wasn't a terrible coach, but he was not really an SEC-level coach.

Smoke's seasons:

44-22(19-10) 4th in the SEC
45-22(20-9) 1st in the SEC
46-19(18-12) 3rd in the SEC
40-22(18-12) 3rd in the SEC
35-24(13-17) 8th in the SEC

Yep, its easy to see those that dont remember the smoke years. He was okay, and trending poorly for that 2007 season. It was gonna be a horrible season regardless of who coached that team. We fired him a year early, good move

The projection is that this will be LSU’s worse team since the pre-Bertman days.
