If so, we are in for a treat. If Lee and Jefferswag can find a way to get it done, I have faith in Brennan and Burrow. I know there is no honey badger, but now we have Aranda....who imo is the X-factor now. With great special teams and kicking game...along with this D. We will find a away to create points. Here’s to hoping this D is that electric!!

**Update....After the recent events I would venture to say this secondary will be nasty. Let’s ride baws!!

2011 was better at DL and in the Secondary. LB advantage to 2018

I think Greedy can be just as disruptive in the secondary as Mo Claiborne was in 2011. But I agree about DL/LB’s. Although our starting DL is pretty damn good this year too... just concerned with the depth there a little.

I can see them being as difficult to move the ball against, but can they change games the way 2011 could? We may need them to.

It's close. Secondary is not quite as deep, but the LBs are much better.

Fehoko and Lawrence maybe not quite as impactful inside as Brockers/Logan but they'll be close.

Aranda is more creative and innovative than late career Chavis, so hopefully he'll extract more out of his group.

Ok.

And the other 4 players in the secondary? How do they compare?

Who on this Defense can do what Tyran did?
Those instincts don’t come along often.

Not without Honey Badger.

Mathieu deserved the Heisman. He was that good and that indispensable to the 2011 success and not just defensively.

2016 D was loaded too. Is this D supposed to be better than that one?

Greedy is better than Claiborne. Obviously no one on the level as Mathieu but Delpit will be as good as Reid imo.

They have similar games, both are very good run stopping safeties. Delpit graded out very well against the run last year.

Battle is average and I think Kelvin Joseph will start at the other corner. Not sure how good he’s gonna be but only because I have nothing to go off.

Well if the stats from Sat don’t give you confidence in our secondary I don’t know what will. ;-) Mo was great at making plays that changed games, I feel Greedy has all the tools to do the same...which is why I mentioned him.

Honey badgers don’t grow on trees. You simply can’t compare current players to generational talents that have completely validated what they were in college, with their play in the NFL. That defense was good as it gets. This years defense could be GREAT and not be as good as 2011 and that’s ok.

You mean the stats from a scrimmage against qbs with roughly 50 combined attempted passes in actual college football games in their 4 years of experience?

You continue to avoid the question. The secondary is more than just 1 cornerback. The 2011 Lsu secondary was the biggest strength of that all-time great defense.

Since you seem incapable of looking beyond Claiborne and Williams, I'll help you out.

Simon vs Vincent
Reid vs Delpit
Taylor vs Battle
Mathieu vs ???
Brooks vs ???

Compare each of them like you are doing Claiborne and Williams.

All the talk of how good this D could be is exciting. I look forward to seeing if they’re as good as people are anticipating.

No it’s not. 2011 was a defense for the ages. Just littered with future pro players. TM7, Claiborne, Mingo, Reid, Minter, Brockers, Tharold Simon, Bennie Logan were all pros that made multiple rosters and made some contribution to their teams. The fact that Sam Montgomery was the biggest pro flop of the group is insane, considering he was one of the best of those players

I don’t think our defense is that talented this year

Have to get better at generating turnovers. The past few seasons our defense haven’t always capitalized on turnover opportunities. 2011 defense made the other team pay for their mistakes, often flipping the field for LSU, setting up for an easy score.

2011 has one of the best secondaries in college football history.

2 first team all Americans at CB
All American safety
criminally underrated Brandon Taylor
Backup CB Ron Brooks would have started for almost every other team in the country including Bama

2018 may be a good D, but doubt it will be historic.

Tharold Simon was ok but he struggled vs top tier WRs( see Deandre Hopkins in bowl game)

That’s why he’s out of the league now.

Devin White is definitely better than Minter.

The dline is better.

Lawrence is better than anyone on that 2011 line. Pete Jenkins said as much. Chaisson is very similar to Mingo and will be better if he’s really gained 10lbs and pushes for Keys sack record.
Different scheme so it’s really hard to compare but I feel we have more talent with Ed/Shelvin at nose and Fehoka being versatile.

LBs are light years better than 2011.

Secondary isn’t close really. But that 2011 secondary was absolutely loaded and like mentioned already. You can’t replicate Badger.
