other coaches have done bigger things at lesser programs in the time it's taken Trent to field one team that has to play its way in to the fricking NIT.

the theory is that people associated with the team read the Tiger Rant.

if so, Alleva is thinking about the change.

quote:

has to play its way in to the fricking NIT.

Alleva understands why this last quoted bit is such a problem.

Its because in the case of a BCS team, normally LSU's record would be fine to get into the NIT. Normally. but not in this case.
Why? Alleva knows. Its because LSU is not packing them in.

the NIT truly cares about only one thing. attendance.
They care most about having a team or two from north Jersey or the city, so that local people can identify with the run and show up at MSG. Their ideal finals would be Long Island vs UConn.

If LSU were packing them in, LSU would be a lock to be in the NIT with the record they have. Its often that .500 BCS teams are invited. Missouri Valley teams will be invited. They will play to packed houses. "I see a road game in the NIT in LSU's future"

It's not up to me whether Trent goes or stays this year, but if we need a new coach, I vote for ottothewise.

Basketball is such a simple game once you utilize the philosophy otto posted earlier in this thread.

Good post sir!! Well played.

I think it's time for a change, Trent had his chance.LSU needs to do it the right way now and find the right coach for LSU and not because they can get him cheap or because he did pretty good else where. This time spend the damm money and make a good hire and pay the man!!!

Fire Trent. Many say give another year because he inherited a weak program with no players in the cupboard. So what!?

Trent's teams have seldom looked like they were coached up to run a definite offensive scheme. Even with bad players, our team should look like they are trying to playing something more than street ball.

NOw,we do have better talent. Hickey is good point guard who is going to be great. Hamilton was looking good until he disappeared the last two weeks. I blame his disappearance on the coaching staff. And Johnny Ob is bonafide who still doesn't get enough touches in a game. That's coaching, too.

Trent has not earned another year. Not with this late season collapse.

I mean, we should always be defending our home court with lights out effort, but Trent just ain't gonna fire his OWN players up. He ain't got it.

But, having said all that, I would bet good money he will be here next season.

We need a coach like the women's team has. It took them a while to find one, but now that they have one, she is a great example of how to coach.

If and only if he signs Norvel Pelle (C/PF, 6-10 210), Shane Hammink (SG, 6-6, 190), Shavon Coleman (SF, 6-6, 195) to go with Malik Morgan. That would show he can recruit and there would be hope. Then with those new players and what's left from this year he would have to go 12-4 in the SEC and win all the games against smaller schools with 25 wins or higher overall. Then he can stay.

Seriously we should be 6-10 SEC if we would have played bama's first string, losing to aubie and ole miss the way we did to close out the season is a joke. How anyone can continue to see this guy is not a terrible coach, has no clue about bb. We got blown out again in the second half by auburn, and tj's excuse is it was senior day, wow. third straight losing sec record and next year not sure it gets much better. Way past time for a change; Where's Mickey?????

Keep him. He either makes the NCAA tournament next year or we look for a new coach.

I think we'll be a top 25 team next year assuming we add Hammink Coleman and a post defender.

Wasn't this supposed to be his make the tourney or go year? Fighting for mediocrity 4 years in is not where we should be. Even if he finally does make the tournament next year then wait? Another 3 years of waiting for him to "develop" a team that has a chance at the tourney? Yay

I would agree with Tom Bronco that Trent should remain provided he signs those outstanding players just named. And I would add that his team must make the NCAA tournament in the 2012-13 season. It just doesn't seem like LSU is a good fit for him--maybe it's that he can only be successful on the West Coast.

Go where from there? What is the upper limit of how far we can go with 2nd rate players and taking four years to build for each trip to the NCAA tournament (assuming we even make it to the NCAA next year)?

Yeah, giving coaches six years of shitty performances to prove themselves is such a great idea. That's why every school is doing it so often.

Well, he did say once he got this program going, it wouldn't decline again like it did under his watch. I'm still kind of on the fence about this. I'd like to give him the next year, but I also don't. I think I'm with the guy saying he needs to get another good big man in this class if he's going to stay.

Of course he said that. What else would he say?

It's still in question whether he can even get the program going in the first place, let alone maintain consistency afterward. In his fourth year, with all the time he's had to fill the roster, we're under .500 and in the bottom half of the SEC, almost the bottom third. And that's the best season we've had in three years.

Ordinarily the fear in firing a coach is that it will make things worse. Things can't get worse than the 12-36 SEC record we've had over these last three years.

And that is in a mediocre at best Basketball conference.

Maybe I am the only one, but I could care less. I love basketball, but LSU has not been able to string 3 good seasons in a row for so long that I just can't get into it anymore.

Brady's last four years: 77-52 (37-27), 1 SEC title, 2 NCAA Tournaments, 1 Final Four
Johnson's first four years: 67-60 (26-38), 1 SEC title, one NCAA tournament

I think we all agree that a) it was time to can Brady but b) Brady definitely could have done as well or better than Johnson has done so far.

I am ready for a change. Bring in a young coach that can relate to the players IMO
