I learned of Scott Cochran leaving Alabama from a text from a good friend of mine, who is a huge Alabama fan but very level headed. I thought he was joking, but I quickly realized he wasn't. Even he admitted that something might be going on behind the scenes. Does anyone know anything about what is going on?

I know Cochran and Smart are great friends, but they've been great friends for years and he's already turned Georgia down recently. They say he's leaving to become an on the field coach, but doesn't Alabama have an on-field position for him. We all know Alabama changes coaches on a yearly basis.

What many Alabama fans are concerned about is that Cochran was seen as Saban's "boy." He's the one coach that stayed with Saban despite being pursued by a lot of programs now and in the past. It can't be money because Alabama is loaded with money and already made him the highest paid strength and conditioning coach a couple of years ago.

I have no clue what is going on, but Alabama fans are coming unglued. My guess would be that Saban may be hanging it up sooner than later because of health problems that we do not know about. Just a guess.

If you know anything, I would love hear from you! Geaux Tigers!

Scott Cochran is leaving Alabama for an on-field position that Saban apparently wouldn’t give him. That’s all anyone on here will know.

To me, that doesn't make sense because a lot of coaches - WR and RB coaches - are nothing more than recruiters with a title next to their name. It seems like if Saban really wanted him to stay, he would have found a way to make that happen. I wonder if there was a big falling out of some sort?

Lil Nicky is nearing the end, it was always going to happen. Only he knows how that end will transpire.

Finebaum, quoting from Saban's PC, said that Cochran approached Saban and asked for an on the field position. Saban told him that he did not have an opening. FWIW, anyway.

Saban isn’t going anywhere for a few more years. He wants another title.

This season was so good, can it get any better? What if it was so good that it made Nick Saban retire?

You know Saban would never admit it, but there has to be a part of him that looks at next year with Mac Jones at QB, sees LSU make good hires to keep the train rolling and thinks... hmm this thing could be going downhill quick.

Maybe also he's not relishing defending against Kiffen and Leach in addition to LSU. You know he's not a fan of these 46-41 type games.

LSU finally found an offense with their top-notch NFL talent and imposing home field advantage, Jimbo Fisher who is a great groomer of quarterbacks is over at A&M with unlimited resources, Lane Kiffin, who knows him and coached with him and produces on offense is over at Ole Miss and you got maybe the best offensive mind in college football with Mike Leach over at Mississippi State. Then you have Dan Mullen coming up who's the best polisher of turds that there is. And hes at Florida. No shortage of talent there.

I think Saban might have been a big fish in a little pond and was relishing it. I think he looks around at the scenery in the SEC and thinks, "maybe now's a good time to slink the frick out the back door with my dignity still intact".

He's first and foremost a defensive guy. Always has been, always will be. College football is moving towards more and more explosive offense. The SEC is full of it now and about to have even more.

Well, except for Georgia. I don't know what the frick is wrong with Georgia.

It honestly does not add up to me.... Saban has repeatedly said he values Cochran and Cochran was the most recognizable off the field figure in Tuscaloosa. I think there are details that will come out later where this all makes more sense
