Looking at their schedule, they should go undefeated and win the MWC in their first year at the FBS level.

Yes. The transitional period for new FBS teams was waived going forward.

On June 24, 2026, the NCAA Division I cabinet enacted legislation recommended by the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision subcommittee that allowed all current and future programs reclassifying to the FBS to be immediately eligible for postseason events. This meant that the Bison would not have to wait until the end of the NCAA-mandated two year probation period to play in events such as bowl games, the Mountain West championship game, and the College Football Playoff.

Since the it's highest ranked G6 and not necessarily the top G6 conference winner I'm sure they are going to bend over backwards for Boise State to get in even if they take another regular season loss somewhere along the line.

James Madison would likely be in front of them as well if they go undefeated.

Here are your current undefeated and 1 loss G6 teams.

AAC
Florida Atlantic - 4-1
Memphis - 4-1
UTSA - 4-1
South Florida - 4-1

CUSA
Liberty - 4-1

MAC
Toledo - 4-1
UMass - 4-1

MWC
North Dakota State - 5-0
New Mexico - 4-1
Air Force - 3-1

Pac 12
#23 Boise State - 4-1
Fresno State - 4-1

Sun Belt
James Madison - 5-0
Georgia State - 4-1
Appalachian State - 3-1
Louisiana - 4-1

they won't get in over some one loss teams like Boise St even if they are undefeated

Cool story, though.

They have been rolling at the FCS level for years.

They are currently 2nd best odds for G6 at +420 behind Boise at +160

Others with similarly easy schedules:
JMU (+450)
New Mexico (+470)

Probably won’t be CUSA or AAC

No conference gets an autobid. It’s just the top 5 conference champions in CFP rankings. That’s why ACC champ Duke got left out last year.

Now, de facto, the SEC and B1G have an autobid. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where either champ gets left out.

Pretty sad that the FCS conference NDSU left is tougher than the FBS conference they joined. Probably a case where some of the Valley and Big Sky schools should move to FBS as well.
