What holds LSU back historically is politics. What holds LSU back currently is perception that Louisiana as a whole is usually ranked in the bottom 5 as states to live in by most metrics used to measure quality of life rankings.

These prospective coaches from outside the Gulf South will have to consider their families before everything else.

None of that matters if you are making $7 million a year. You're going to live in the Country Club of Louisiana or University Club. Your kids are going to U-High, Catholic High or St. Joe's. Your wife will hang out with other rich wives. You'll have access to all sorts of nice things - a beachfront condo, a place in the French Quarter, a luxury car.

With all the talk going on, I was wondering what the response would be to the top 10 college coaching jobs.

Here are my selections in no particular order:

Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Texas
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Clemso
n
USC

How can you be mentally handicapped enough to select UGA as the second best college football program in college football over the past 20 years? How many Natty's has UGA won since 1980?

I can see you picking UGA if you want to talk about how much elite football talent Kirby Smart has squandered away with nothing to show for it or how many big games Kirby Smart has choked in, but the second best college football program in America? You're out of your freaking cotton-picking mind!

By the way, how many Natty's has A&M won since 1939? Lay off the hard drugs! Also, how many college playoff games has Oklahoma won? Meanwhile, Texas hasn't done shite in over 10 years. Notre Dame is as shitty as Oklahoma. Finally USC is a freaking joke.

As after Alabama, no other college football program in America has produced more Nattys than LSU. Not Ohio State and not Clemson. Give me a freaking break, as your list and perception of the college football landscape sucks to high heaven.

No question top 10, based on recruiting, facilities, TAF commitment, fan base, stadium over 100k, 3 nattys in the 2000s ( should have been 4)

It's gotta be tough to bring top names to Louisiana, though. The job may be top 10 but the location is bottom 10

The location is filled with top talent though.

It's not a question of top 10, hell it's not even a question of top 5, it's a question of top 3.

Fred Flinstone won a championship here.

LSU hired a coach that took a yearly 5-6 average Oklahoma St team and made them an 8-4 average Oklahoma St team. At LSU he won a national championship, played in another, and had 7 10+ win seasons (5 11+ win seasons) in 11 years here.

Yall LSU didn't hire studs. LSU didn't hire, the best guys out there. We argue over coaches, but if we hired a true big time coach, we'd have an instant dynasty. Hell we'd have a yearly 11+ win coach if we just hired a decent coach.

We are not Texas, we are not USC, if a good coach comes here, he WILL win a national championship. We WILL be an elite team. That's what makes it so exciting.

Baton Rouge is a great place to live. And, when you have money, it is a beautiful place to live. The folks here who think BR is a craphole are just ignorant. Like every city, there are parts of it you do not want to live in. But that is true of Austin, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Athens, GA.

Alabama is not number 1 job. They currently have the best coach, but that doesn't mean anybody wants to coach there after saban leaves

Why weren't coaches trying to take the job before O got it?

I can't recall anyone stepping up to take it? Therefore Coach O got it..

It’s unquestionably a top 5 job. It’s not even debatable. And it’s better than Alabama where they have this hideous in state rivalry and a legacy issue with bear Bryant and now nick Saban. Plus the stage is…. Alabama.

We have an incredibly rich athletic fund through TAF. It might be THE wealthiest behind only Texas.

We have the richest crop of high school prospects in the country and no in state competition.

Our stadium is top 5 in capacity.

intangibles- no massive legacy issues to overshadow huge egos.

naming rights opportunities. Saban will never have that field named after him.

NFL connection right down the road. College players love having access to the NFL close by. Bama doesn’t have that.

Since 2000 -

and with 3 different Head Coaches -

LSU has 210 wins against 67 losses. That's a .758 winning percentage. Almost 10 wins per season = 9.85.

3 National Championships.
1 Loss in the Title game.
5 SEC Championships.
6 SEC West Division Titles.

YES.... Both Les Miles and Ed Orgeron have won National Championships here.

If we weren't locked in the same division with Alabama we'd be 2-3, but Saban puts a bit of a vice grip on the potential. Still definitely top 5 imo.
