Is listening to Aranda something we should be doing?

I do not know if this was already posted and if it has, my apologies. I am not knocking the DC hire at all. I mean I am sure that anything is better than what we had and we can only go up from here. I say we need to give this guy a chance. However, I find it odd that we are getting advice from a HC of another Power 5 conference school. I mean we can assume that Aranda loved LSU and wants to give O some advice but in a business mind set, why give another head coach advice on a hire? We are all trying to claim the same trophy at the end of every season so why give a competitor advice on a hire? Anyone have a logical reason?

Especially after Orgeron said during fall camp under Pelini the defense was already better than under Aranda. We all know how last years defense really was

Not exactly some random P5 coach

I'll take what Aranda says over whatever got us Pelini.

Why didn't Aranda bring him to Baylor with him?

Totally get it is not just some random coach like Gus giving us advice but isn’t every single team trying to get the same trophy that only one team can win at the end of the day? Why give another competitor some advice on a potential hire that can turn LSU to potentially be great on defense and make another run for a Natty?

guys with sauces on the 247 board said Aranda and O are very much good friends despite the fluff piece on Pelini last fall. Plus lsu made him rich af and his family loves LSU so I don’t see the big deal. This is a bit of a reach

I would want Aranda back here if something happens with O. Problem solved!

That is the only thing I could think of. If so, more props to Aranda for the continuous love and support. Just seems odd to me from a business perspective. Guess there are still some good hearted people out there.

We aren't exactly competing with Baylor though.

Who is to say Baylor gets decent recruiting classes in the future and we face them in the playoffs a few years down the road with the DC their HC told us to hire and LSU comes out on top with a strong defensive performance? How would that look to you as a Baylor fan

Did he want to go to Baylor?
Was Baylor willing to pay enough to get him out of the NFL on top of Roberts' buyout?

Many people can't decipher coach speak and take everything said at face value. WTF was O supposed to say, Aranda was the greatest and now we are going to suck so I'm going to hire the popular hire at the time?

O had to pump the 20 D up, no matter what he truly thought of it. He can't just come out and say "they suck", even though he knew it. Just because it was perceived by some as shade in Aranda doesn't mean it actually was in the grown up world.

We aren’t on track to play them and we don’t recruit head to head with them. I’m sure Dave knows he has a bit of a rebuild on his hands there, especially after last season. I don’t see why it would be a problem.

If O were talking to Kiffin about hires, that would be different.

Holy crap...they are good friends .... you don't think Aranda wouldn't seek some guidance from O.

Coaches that have worked together talk all the time & trade advice back and forth. It's not that big of a deal. Hell, O even talks to Kiffin every week except when we play them.

I'm sure Aranda wants success for guys that coached with him. If Jones does well here, Aranda will be happy for him, even if we do happen to meet up in the playoff or a bowl.

Maybe Aranda is hoping to return to LSU at some point in the future and doesn’t want to burn any bridges. Quote the contrary, he figures helping LSU build the bridge even higher can only help his chances if that possibility ever comes to fruition.

Not sure if sarcasm. If not sarcasm, no, I do not think Aranda would seek guidance from Orgeron.

These coaches help each other all the time. You are always hearing about innovative coaches doing seminars with other staffs in the summers. Despite competing in recruiting and on the field, there is a professionalism that these guys all want to advance the sport overall.

Wonder why fans think opposing coaches don't like each other? Or players dislike other teams players?
