Nope. Even if he wins 7 in the next 15 years, Saban did it first. Now if he exceeds what Saban has done then there would be an argument.

Keep an eye on his recruitment of O-linemen.

In 2004, the O-linemen pipeline was on downtrend. Like the canary in the cave keeling over, it was sure sign Saban had checked out for NFL.

There is where I will leave a sensor for how good of a coach is Coach Kelly vs. Saban. In the selfish category, Saban lost points, even though his record stands far and away for itself. Nothing against that.

Saban is only good because he’s been at SEC schools. He was mediocre at Michigan St and Toledo.

Please tell me you’re trolling and not really this fricking stupid.

What? What does this even mean? You realize when you’re an SEC head coach you have to play the other SEC schools? My god…

Yes, Kelly is a better coach than Saban, as are three or four other coaches. But none of them are as good as Saban used to be…not by a long shot. The guys is plainly slipping - still damn good, though. Saban went 9 years losing ten games total. Until Clemson beat the shite out of Bama in the 2018 title game, Saban never lost except in close games.

I believe that 2018 was the end of Saban’s true dominant period. He would go on to another national title in the pandemic year, but he got his arse thoroughly whipped by…

Clemson in 2018
LSU in 2019 (score got close, but they were manhandled)
Georgia in 2021

The Clemson loss in 2018 started the decline for Saban. He is still fielding tough teams, but they are not only beatable, they can get dominated. His 2022 team does not look like a great one. Tennessee and LSU are rising, and Georgia seems to have surpassed them. The road to another national championship looks agonizingly difficult for Saban, and I doubt he gets another.

I’d bet anyone even money that Kelly wins as many, or more, national championships than Saban in the next five years. I’d bet against another one for Saban.

Wait 10 years (Saban is 10 years older) and ask then.

There are two things that Saban has that Kelly will never have. That’s the REC and the SEC offices in his back yard which mean friendly officials.

Such bullshite! He won a national championship with neither, and does anyone doubt he would have as many if he had stayed at LSU? He’d probably have more, and the weak Alabama fans would be complaining about the SEC referees and the LSU alumni.

No. We can revisit this convo when Kelly gets to 5 championships. Kelly is a very successful coach but Saban is the GOAT.

You are missing the point. According to your criteria, Bear Bryant is a better coach than Kelly, but which would you prefer to be in charge of the 2022 Tigers?

Man, Saban really hurt some of yall. The man tried to further his career in the pros, as countless coaches have done before and will do after him. It didn't work out, and Alabama, a traditional powerhouse, had an opening. It's our own damn fault for not doing what Skip really wanted to do in firing Miles and rehiring Saban. As far as the OP, the answer is no thus far. If he shows differently I'll gladly eat crow. We beat State, Aubie in the jungle and an overrated Ole Miss team. I am excited about our recent success, just ready for our first big test, or final I guess lol. Yall need to let the shite go.
