Is Jay Johnson the most Saban-esque coach at LSU since Saban?

One track mind and focused (he had no clue about the jello shot challenge when asked). Can be short with media and is pretty dry. Controlling to a fault sometimes (basically blamed the game day operations person for not predicting the popup thunderstorm in the Regionals). Demanding of assistants (JJ will have 3 pitching coaches in 3 years) but also a huge stepping stone for assistants to head coaches. Very process oriented.

And most importantly, a winner.

Mulkey has admitted she is not a film watcher like Saban. She leaves that to the assistants. Very different than Saban

His assistant coaches get head coaching opportunities, very much like Saban.

Uh, I would vote for a certain WBB coach at LSU. She is probably more Saban than Saban.

In fact, I would say Saban is the most Mulkey of coaches out there next to the woman herself...

Mulkey and Saban are similar in that they are both championship coaches, are the leading voice in their sport, and incredible recruiters.

They are very different in assistant coach retention (Saban churns them and Mulkey doesn't) and gameplanning X's and O's (Saban lives in the film room, Mulkey leaves that to others) and interaction with the media.

JJ is much like our former general except he is well seasoned so he doesn’t make a tactical mistake that our young great general did.

If you include assistant coaches maybe Aranda was the closest

He's like Saban in every way except that he is tall enough to reach the refrigerator door handle, grab the milk and pour himself a glass.

No, neither JJ nor Mulkey are Saban-like as they know how to smile

Let’s wait until he wins a championship before we start comparing him to coaches who’ve won championships.

In talking about the weather last week, CJJ laughed & said he read where Saban turns on the Weather Channel every morning, "so, now I watch the Weather Channel every morning". Among the many good things about him is his age, early 40's or so. Also, he has no kids...not necessary a good thing on its own...so his whole life revolves around baseball.

Loyalty breed loyalty, plus there is less churn in general in WBB.

interaction with the media.

Might I suggest you take a better look at Mulkey's interaction during the tourney. She was down right feisty at times.

Kim watches plenty of film but isn’t in a film room all day. She is just as busy with practices, recruiting, fundraising and program promotion. It’s impossible to do everything as a HC so you need assistants to delegate stuff to

Starkey spends a bit of time with film breakdown but isn’t nearly as involved with recruiting as mulkey and the other staff
