Still have no clue why Saban did not call a time out before the ball was snapped. Iowa had 1 play left no matter what. Why not at least set up prevent.

Are you saying that Bo Pelini should have called a time out to set up a prevent defense to stop Texas? It was the same situation. Iowa was the team that was wasting the time and they were behind. They could have gotten 2 or 3 more plays, but for bad clock management they didn't. The announcers were surprised and said it as the play was going that "Iowa wasted so much time this is going to be the last play."

Of course, Ronnie Prude should have communitcated with his teammates to know that he was not in zone coverage, but LSU should not have called a time out there.

we'd used them all in the comeback.

and to me, Ferentz and Tate blew the clock mgmt, they should've called the TO. the penalty on the previous play threw stuff outta wack. I think everyone thought the clock was still stopped after it was wound again. Tate just realized it late and made the play IMO.

People keep bringing up this game, but really...did you feel worse after Iowa beat us or after we lost to Alabama last year? Or after we lost to Alabama this year?

Iowa felt much worse then Bama last year. Our season was already over and it would have been nice to win, but it didn't cost us anything. The way we lost to Iowa and the fact that our coach then left hurt a lot more. Only reasons I would say Bama this year is worse is because we were still in position to win the sec and because of all the horrible calls by the refs.

i was told that by 2 players that were on the team and they told me that at different times...they said that the team divided up on saban...some stuck with him saying he was justified and the other half hated him and were glad to see him go after that...

I saw video from a local TV station of the incident on the field. After the coaches shook hands, cameras were all in Saban's face because his LSU tenure was officially over. He did call out and look for Prude, and asked him something like "what happened to you" on that play, may have been more like "why were you out of position", but he wasn't cursing him. Prude totally dissed Saban, just mumbled something as he ran off in another direction. I remember Saban asking "what?" then kind of had the expression of "frick it", waived off toward Prude and walked to the locker room. I remember thinking to myself that Prude could probably not give a shite what Saban had to say to him at that point.

Did your former players mention if Saban at least addressed the team prior to selling them out?

I'm not one of the biggest Saban rah rah guys on here, and have no doubt the dude is as big an a-hole as he often comes across, but I don't believe this for one second.

Considering how it would affect recruiting...I'd tend to agree.

there is no way saban used the n word. c'mon rantards.

ETA and if Saban did in fact get in Prude's face I would have some newfound respect for him...the fact that he was still coaching players despite the fact that he had just coached a meaningless game.

Hoofkin was by far the worst DB LSU has had in a long long time

Danny McCray gives him a run for his money.

I swear when I see an opposing QB on a really important down, pointing out something on our D, I just know what he is really doing is saying, "#44, where is #44, okay, okay, there he is guys. THAT'S where we are going with the ball."

I even told my brother they need to get him a 8 or something so maybe he won't stand out that much, that 44 is like a big ole target.

That kid who wore #1 on his jersey in 2000, I think. Damon was his last name. He didn't even finish the season before he quit. Tennessee reciever by the last name of Washington torched him for an NCAA record 300 yards or something. That kid was the worst ever!

I mean it was a good bowl game. It meant nothing that we lost...except that it was on our record. When we lose to conference and divisional opponents...those games hurt because they chip away at a chance to do something important, like win the SEC. Just don't know why people care about the 2004 Cap 1 Bowl so much.

My best friend(Draconian Sanctions, please don't hold that against me) and I were talking about this last night and both had agreed that was one of the easier losses of the past couple of years to get over. At the time we were a program in the middle of some change, Saban clearly didn't wanna be there during the game as was evident by him not really getting on the players during it. In fact, during that game I saw more positive remarks out of Saban when things went bad than in any other game at LSU, clear indication his heart wasn't in it. Furthermore, we had a new coach and coaching staff coming in and the game showed us that even though Saban was leaving he had left the cupboards very full. The loss sucked and I wish that Prude had learned to play prevent defense at some point at LSU but at the end of the day it wasn't nearly as tough to get over as Bama (08 or 09); the Tennessee Katrina game; Auburn 06 game; Arkansas 07; Florida 06; or certainly Ole Piss 09.

The only other game that I can think of that I was able to rationalize and recover from so fast was the SEC Championship game loss to UGA in 05 just because the team had played 12 straight games in a row, had been devastated by a hurricane, and the realization that even though we entered that game 3rd in the BCS standings that there was no way even if we had won that we could have gotten to the national title game.

Kinda rambled there, my bad guys.

Now it all makes sense. That's why the folks in Alabama love him so much.
