Our WRs were adequate at worst but they're elite now
QB - obviously huge improvement
OL - Huge improvement and they're now coming into their own
LB - We already had White and Divinity but bringing in Philips, Queen, Chaisson was a pretty big deal

The WRs sucked dude

Trey Quinn, Jon Diarse, Tyrion Johnson and Jazz Ferguson all transferred out

Foster Moreau & Darrel Williams were the 2nd & 3rd leading pass catchers in 2017

Donnie Alexander was a starting LB in 17, he was terrible, as was Corey Thompson (who played well), who had to be moved down from Safety. Just about every backup were freshmen. That is poor roster construction.

Keep in mind LSU had already gone to 3-4. Look at the LBs the last two years and compare them. shite that is with Tyler Taylor not even on the team

Understand how crucial it is to be able to plug in, say, Patrick Queen in for Divinity & not skip a beat

Chark and Gage are NFL starters

I think the Canada scheme just wasn't very WR friendly and Etling was pretty limited

Wow, I've been away for a spell; this thread is still going strong. Hell it has doubled since I left. I'm not sure I can catch up, I'm kinda sleepy.

Fact is LSU couldn't run the ball or pass block in '09, so there was nothing built to run it. Crowton's MO was coming in and taking someone elses O and deploying his principles, but sucked at building or maintaining offenses wherever he went.
Still I contend this was ultimately on Miles, the ex-OL coach, not to see it coming sooner.

I think it is fair to say miles had many good things, but also had many wtf things. Part of coaching is the willingness to evolve. Also part of it is something called clock management. Miles had a great run, but still I think we have an overall better coached team. I'd argue also we had a better coached team than when saban first got started here. Yes, ha had some success, but people put him on too high a pedestal because he is saban. 2002 and 2004 weren't exactly killer years.

There was a ton of NFL talent on the roster when saban took over. I think it was more a culture change.

I swear, some of you either can’t read, or comprehend. The term best is a superlative. You can compare great coaching staffs and yet still determine one to be the best of the best.

It’s really a simple, logical question. You may disagree with the ultimate choice, but let’s not flame the OP for what is a well structured question.

Look at who was flaming though. Mostly lunchbox. That would be expected from that loser.

Look at the alter claiming others are flaming while he's too scared to use his real name to post.

And what's funny is you post something that is in line with my thinking, and say I'm flaming

2016 was insanely talented but became a waste after they went into the season with Miles

16 guys from that team were in nfl camps that summer

In 2017 LSU had the 3rd most Freshmen snaps of all P5 schools. This, of course is the base of the current team.
Miles put in the work up to October '16, leaving Ed basically only January to recruit up to '17 NSD, so I guess you're crediting Miles for the base of this current team?

Orgeron did well to retain what Miles gathered, of course aided somewhat by staff continuity.

Chark is fine but Gage was drafted into the nfl because of special team.

Now compare those WRs to the ones LSU has now. Or the ones they had in the past.

Prob the worst WR corps in 20 years

Based on what the OP said, I would say applied to a single season, yes. Les had some great years but even in the good years the team was plagued with discipline issues on the field, far too many stupid penalties, clock management etc. and discipline issues off of the field. Also, since 2011, and perhaps my biggest frustration it seemed like Les couldn't keep the team focused between regular season and post season. All coaching issues.
