Is it an athletic competition or pageant?

Three power 5 champions are undefeated. They won their conference and beat every team they faced. They could do nothing more except maybe look better doing it, but it is all about winning right?

The other two conference champions have one loss each. However one of them defeated the other when they played.

If you leave out an undefeated champion then it is reduced to eye test competition.

So the games don’t matter, right?

A pageant when it comes to certain programs. Always has been and will be.

Who cares? They both lost a game when another power 5 team did not. Sorry about your luck.

They absolutely do. They’re a component.

Exactly, ask Wash And Mich who they would rather play?

Texas and Florida State would be their answer.

You’re telling me that Bama taking down the reigning champions of a 20 plus game win streak matters the least.

You’re correct, they wouldn’t. Today’s answer will prove it’s not the current best 4; rather, it’s the competition results during season is what controls.

It’s certainly possible. A 6-6 Auburn team had no chance until they did.

We can guess and likely would be right.

But if we take route, why not just determine the winner that way.

Bama beats Michigan
Georgia beats Washington

Bama beats Georgia

Bama is national Champs

No games needed

What an outstanding support of a playoff team

That’s the whole problem. “Eye tests” are deeply flawed. Whose eyes?
All you have to go on is facts, like records and game results. Everyone “knew” Oregon and the Heisman trophy-winning QB was the “best” team in the Pac-12. Until they lost to Washington. Twice.
frick the “eye test.” All you can go on is the results of the games. FSU won all theirs. Bama didn’t.

Which it should. Liberty went undefeated. Are they a top 4 team? Same thing with power 5 conference.
Washington and Oregon literally beat nobodies all year. Same with Mich and osu. Playing little sisters of the poor all year long and going undefeated does not (entitle) a team to a top 4 ranking. As much as participation trophy kids that are adult now want it to be, that's not how life works. That's not how a job works. That's not how it works at a company.

Ok, so name a team that Florida State lost to.

And, since y’all clearly want to put only the best in teams in there, Georgia should receive no penalty for losing yesterday.

They wouldn't but that doesn't matter according to participation trophy kids that are now adults.

Who knows? Perhaps we should just go back to the pre-BCS days and have people choose the "best" team.

FSU's D-line gives them a chance against anyone. They were the best team we played this year. Do you ruin the hopes of an entire team that worked hard to get where they are because a guy got hurt? Look at what OSU did with a 3rd string QB in the first playoff.

Not if they have played little sisters of the poor the entire year. Best matters. Not entitlement, more deserving, or entitled. Participation trophies don't count in the real world

Hold the frick on, you’re the one advocating for there to be no penalty for losing and no reward for winning.

Who’s coming off as a participation trophy kid now?
