This is actually no longer the case. Gainesville has grown exponentially in the past few years.

Naw, there are some pretty good places to eat there

There is literally a bar there called Balls
Actually, balls closed down
I have spent more time in gville than any tiger fan should, and it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Downtown is nice, campus is pretty, they have some bad arse apartment complex pools. It's really no worse than most sec towns

I have been to all the SEC campuses excluding Starkville and Columbia, MO. Gainesville is by far the trashiest I have experienced.

It was the worst away game ever in my life. They treated my group like shite. This was season after Katrina. They made fun of Louisiana so much I hoped a cat 5 hurricane hit them afterwards. I still hope it happens, that fan base sucks, and deserve hell. Cops were no help and actually the worst ever I have encountered.

I'd rather go to Iraq than go back to Gainesville.

Cheesedicks were looking to fight every LSU fan walking into the swamp when I went in '08. There were a ton of tandem dude on dude moped riding. The cops sucked. The game sucked. The drive sucked. The Knights Inn was ok.

Nicest place I've ever been to Gainesville is Cafe Risqué

As long as MSU is in the sec Starkville will always be at the top of this list.

I've made almost all SEC road games myself...and Gainesville was the absolute worst. Campus is an identity crisis of rural Florida meth meets Miami cocaine. Both terrible, even worse together..that's Gainesville. Bland campus with zero identity. The city is even worse- cops waiting for you to step off the sidewalk to write you a ticket if are walking around with alcohol at the game. It's terrible. We have a sample of terrible fans... but I didn't meet anyone worth a shite there with obnoxious hicks who think they live on the beach. It's just terrible. Geaux Tigers

Funny, i had a similar experience in '07 at TS. Even after they lost, they were arrogant pricks.
I was walking back to my apartment, and 75% of every gator fan i passed gave me "the chomp" and proceeded to tell me how it didn't matter because they would "see us in Atlanta.". We all know how well that worked out for them.

i Lived there for 5 years recently and it is actually great town. The area right by the stadium is where the college kids hang out and has typical tiger land type places. If you go to the "downtown" area there are some great places to eat and hang out with a 21+ crowd. It was a really fun place to live and was on par with baton rouge for eating establishments (just no good cajun food)

+1
My wife went to UF for 8 years. I lived up there for 2 years.
It's grown A LOT in the last few years. And there's "Cajun food" restaurants now, but let's be honest....
