re: Is Frank Wilson Les' Heir Apparent?

There are a couple of reasons I won't go into here that it will not happen in my lifetime. One reason that I will go into is that there are still too many way bad memories of what happened the last time we "promoted" an assistant to HC. Archer, while a good guy and a good DC, was simply not HC material. No, for what LSU is paying they will go with someone proven. As for Frank Wilson, there is no doubt that the day will come that he will be offered an HC gig somewhere at a smaller school. The question at that point is going to be whether he likes the money he is getting at LSU (and for doing a pretty decent job) or stepping off into uncharted waters for a lot less money and nothing that certain. Actually, I see him going to a coordinator gig at another college or even an assistant in the NFL.

It would be nice to have someone who has coached or played here before to carry it on. If can present the best plans for the direction of the program then certainly.
Is he not watching and learning anything from Les Miles? He brings the same things as CLM so why not. Both great recruiters, family guys, great people, and neither has proven that they can make in-game adjustments consistently. What else is missing?

I refer you to the days of Jerry Stovall and Mike Archer. Les goes, you just about need to start over. Other big time programs have learned this as well.

Don't get me wrong. There's a part of me that would have like to have seen Jimbo Fisher get consideration after Saban. However, while he has turned into a fine HC, the line of thought at the time was that he had not been in the oven long enough. Not sure what happened at Texas to mature him (other than perhaps learning how NOT to do it), but he went into FSU a different guy.

On the flipside, hiring Will Muschamp as HC at the time would have been detrimental as he showed at Florida. He just wasn't ready yet.

Problems with reading comprehension there, dangling ?

He has never even been a coordinator at the college level and you think he is gonna be lsu's head coach.

Would much rather sink Frank succeed Les, than Cameron, but it probably won't be either one.

That day has already come. He prob wasn't offered much more than he's making now. He has plenty of time to do it later.

Head Coach will have to have SEC experience, NFL assistant experience, and head coaching experience at a major school.

What? Jimbo plays in a weak arse conference and coached under 3 national title winning coaches. His team got fricking embarrassed and quit on him. The fans would have wanted him fired too. They will be back losing to nc state again without Jameis.
Oh and Jimbo left LSU and went to FSU. Not Texas.

Nobody knows sh@t anymore. Gus Malzahn came out of the High School ranks and doing damn good at Auburn, along with Chad Ford was the the Offensive Coordinator at Clemson. He is the new Coach at SMU. UNLV hired one of their state's legend as a Coach this year. LSU gets talent. The coaches life-line is in their assistants. Enough of the excuses.
The real question in the Mason-Dixie Line is this one:
Is LSU administration, aside from the fans ready for Frank Wilson to be the face of their football program?
That is the question. (It should have been posted that way).
When you can successfully address this question, then you will have your answer without any hesitation.

LSU would hire a person of chartreuse color if they thought he could win a title. Race has nothing to do with it.
Coach Wilson will eventually become a head coach. Hope we can keep him a few more years.

Les is not known for turning out HC caliber assisstants. See Paveto at Northwestern.
If Wilson has HC aspirations, he will need to cut his teeth with another program first.
Guy can definitely recruit, but a successful HC needs to demonstrate an ability to hire good people around him, innovate, and manage a game.
Recruiting alone may get you 8 wins and a December bowl game, but not too long ago that was unacceptable at LSU.

quote:funny and great point at the same time. Doesn't matter whether or not they have NFL or SEC experience. What matters is whether or not they have demonstrated an ability to do more with less. Avoid those who do Les with more.
Oddly enough, we have a guy on staff right now who meets that criteria...
