If LSU wins out and defeats UGA in Atlanta, they will be number one in the final CFP poll.
No other team in the nation will have that type of resume.

After the conference championship games LSU would have much better top end wins. But if OSU runs the table, every game 58-7 , that could change. It depends on the eye test down the stretch. That’s why we want the defense to step up down the stretch so we look dominant.
As for it mattering, yes - playing number four Oregon/Utah/OU/whoever in Atlanta is far preferable than playing Clemson in Glendale for numerous obvious reasons.

What happens if LSU wins both regular season games, but is somehow 3 going into the seccg. If they somehow get beat by UGA, do they fall enough to be left out? I know people say rankings don’t matter now, but if, going into seccg LSU is #1, they would not drop 4 places with a loss to UGA. But if they are 3, going into the game, there’s a definite chance they could drop 2 spots

he didn't say he thought they should, he is just opining what he thinks will happen based on all the gaga love the committee has been showing ohio state.
I've been thinking this, too. it is based on the assumption that Ohio State easily handles both Penn State and Michigan. but they could both give Ohio State a real game. don't know where the games will be played.
I also agree that if we beat Georgia, how can anyone keep us out of the top billing having beaten #2, # 4, and 3 other top 10 teams (at least when we played them.)

I think going into playoffs you'd actually want to be 2 or 3. The number 4 team is usually a really good team that had a mishap and just squeaked in but it doesn't change how good they actually are.

it doesn't matter as long as Georgia is ahead on our way to the SEC championship, and we win out we will be top ranked going into the playoff. It's as simple as that. It doesn't matter who is ranked #1 until the end.
