No it’s not. The first at bat I watched Curiel have, I immediately thought his swing looked just like Ken Griffey Jr.

So just 3 weeks into his first college baseball season, he is better than Dylan Crews and has a swing as sweet as Ken Griffey Jr.

Never change rant.

Crews will always be my all time favorite man. Seems like he was light years ahead of any Freshman that’s ever played here. I think maybe most of us expected Curiel to have a slow start so he’s definitely over exceeded my expectations as a hitter. Kid is very talented. I think crews gets the edge when it comes to power.

He pretty good. But I don't see him hitting 20 bombs a season for LSU.

Crews and Curiel are different players. Curiel has shown right now that he can flat out hit. But what separated Crews from other Freshmen and hitters was he had true power from foul pole to foul pole.

Lets see how Curiel does come conference play but it is going to be difficult to maintain his current pace and without this pace with Crews' power its going to be hard to say he has a better freshman season than Crews.

Every fanbase in the country compares freshman studs to great players from past seasons. I don’t know why you think this is unique to LSU

Curiel definitely trails both Crews and Duplantis in quality of walk up song.

I don't even know what Curiel's is.

i tend to hate these comparisons. Because it feels like we're disparaging one to make the other look good.

I'm only comparing walk up songs. Duplantis and Crews had two of the best.

The stats are early but the stats support the eye test: Crews is more of a power hitter where Curiel is more of a "pure hitter". By the end of the season Curiel will likely have a very similar OPS stat as Crews, where Crews is better in the slugging category and Curiel is better in the on base category.

Also, on defense I think Curiel is not playing his best position. I think he will eventually grow into being LSU's starting 2nd baseman, but not this year.

Crews had an OPS of 1.116 his freshman year. Curiel hasn’t even faced SEC pitching yet. I think that’s a high bar. He’s not going to slug what Crews did and it’s going to be tough for him to do better, on the season than Crews did with OBP (.453)
