how many did schimpf make in how many games at 2nd? and are you really gonna argue lemahieu has better range at 2nd than schimpf? if so, that's laughable

We are much stronger at 2nd with LeMahieu IMO. That's not a knock on Shimpf. He was very solid. But, he's not as good as LeMahieu.

Also, to your point, LeMahieu has better range to his left than Shimpf does IMO.

I'm not ripping on Lemahieu at all, he plays a pretty good 2nd base, I'm just arguing that I think Schimpf has a little more range, as good of an arm

I also disagree that Shimpf has as good an arm as LeMahieu.

Given time, I believe he will improve greatly and be a terrific 2nd baseman.

I agree that Schimpf is a really good 2nd baseman and has done a great job. I think that DJ has a good arm, but slow delivery/release.

People that think that move was made because of schimpfs lack of defense just weren't paying attention.

I agree that the move was not because of schimpfs lack of defense.

i agree about shortstop, but not 2nd base.

You think Schimpf is a better defensive 2nd baseman?

No. Because with a lead having a strong defense is more important I believe. If we were trailing, I'd say it may be a consideration for coach PM, but with the lead you have to protect that lead with your best defenders.

Beaux, just please stop with your useless threads. Nola is an upgrade on the defensive end, thats what we needed. Mainieri didn't insert him into the lineup because of his bat, but the strong arm he has.

If we have to complain because our Freshman Shortstop isn't setting the world on fire at the plate in his first two weeks as a starter I think we can live with that.

You think so Beaux?

Since his insertion, things are good. I have no problem with him hitting .230. Others are raising their offensive game anyway. And even in 1997, Clint Earnhardt was a sub-par hitter...we still won. Hell, I can name you a >.280 hitter on every c'ship team from Johnny Telechea to Kenny Jackson to Tim Lanier to Conan Horton to Ray Wright.

I believe both times put the force at 2nd and/or put the double play on as well. And by the way NOLA is a better shortstop than DJ, no offense to DJ but like Mainieri said better arm, softer hands. I'm going to add smoother and better body position on throws. Also, I believe NOLA was the player of the year in LA, this kid can hit. Leon's a liability not Nola.

1. From memory, We averaged over 10 runs/ game the first 11 or 12 games of the year.
2. Last year we won 23 straight games w/ Le
ahieu at SS and Schimpf at second--no one complained
3. Schimpf bat is too good to take out of the line-up, but his outfield play is rusty-Does not get a really good jump on balls hit to him
4. So who do you sit? I say Nola.
5. Is our team better-- Infield, Outfield, and
Batting with Nola at SS?

Mainieri put Nola in at Shortstop because we weren't turning enough double plays...we fixed that didn't we? We've won 7 of our last 9 SEC games.

Settle the frick down classof72.

If Helenihi had been a good hitter I think we would have seen:

1B Ochinko
2B Hanover
SS LaMahieu
3B Helenihi
LF Schimpf
CF Mahtook
RF Mitchell
C Gibbs

You really don't think that putting Nola in @ SS is the main reason we are winning I hope. Hitting and pitching is why were are winning right now--Dean, LaMahieu, Mahtook, Schimpf, Mitchell,Ochinko, Coleman, Ranaudo, Ross, Ott, and others

Nola hit the ball hard today and ended up with 2 RBI. He's better than some people on this thread are giving him credit for.
