2005 was incredibly talented. They were more talented than the 2006 team honestly, even though the 2006 team performed better because Jamarcus was coming into his own.

The polls would be fairly close. We “split” the 2003 title, and computers/ schedule strength would have played a roll.
I think it would have been close, we may have passed them.

LOL. No, he wouldn't have. Not under the same circumstances. Not at all.

He may have won ONE more game overall, but that's it.

SabanLSU is not SabanBAMA.

SabanLSU would have lost a rigged game at AU in 2006 just like Les did. Saban "may" have won at UF in 2006, but after they took away not one, but TWO TD's to keep LSU from going up 14-0, you knew what would eventually happen there too.

It is hilarious to me when people say stuff like this. Saban wouldn't get special ref treatment or mulligans at LSU no matter how much you want to believe it.

Despite two losses, 2005 is one of the greatest season in LSU history. One of my favorite ever.

Saban had National Title aka carry the league nationally clout already in hand. He wouldn't have been totally chumped and relegated like newbie Miles was at Aub 2006 for that year's early chosen one frickery.

Saban wouldn't have cock-blocked Jimbo from attacking that Frosh DB inserted for Aub at Kickoff full-bore. Or insist upon running into his protege Muschamp's telegraphed 8-in-a-box all damn day without adjusting. Unlike Les Schembechler's " I thought we'd eventually break one loose" bad excuse..

Saban's team wouldn't have sleptwalked in 2006, only hitting it's stride way late in the season..

6-2 LSU won at 7-1 Ark, a simple split of either Refgate on Plains or Fumbling & fricking Blind Calls at Fla..puts LSU in Atl.

It’s hard to say. I always thought Les did about the same as Saban would’ve in 2005, given Katrina and playing with no by the way weeks. Maybe Saban beats Tennessee.

2006 is more interesting. Saban and Les ran pretty much the same offense back then. We still had Jimbo, and Saban was certainly capable of laying some offensive eggs. So I don’t know how much better the 2006 offense would’ve been with Saban. Auburn game was rigged. Would Saban have been able to overcome that? Honestly don’t see how. Saban has more cache than Les but those refs were not letting LSU win.

So does Saban beat Florida? Again, I don’t know if the offense would’ve looked any different. I recall what a frustrating game that was. After the refs erased an early TD on a phantom holding call, JR fumbles. That’s not Les’ fault. I don’t recall exactly but it seems like LSU constantly shot itself in the foot with turnovers and penalties. It took some zany bad luck and turnovers for Florida to win a game that was closer than the 23-10 score indicated. Maybe that changes with Saban.

I guess i just don’t see much difference in LSU-Saban vs early-Les. The offenses and play style were the same. Saban didn’t change on offense until a few years ago.

Was in attendance for both with my crew..lost two dimes on LSU each game.

Was so miserable at Fla watching that abortion of a 3rd qtr start with a fumble. That I just went and ate a hot dog by concessions, staring at the sunset at the top of the stadium concourse, hearing the roar of fans while Gators rolled..

Knowing it was a long ride home.

That 2006 Florida game was weird and frustrating. At no point did Florida seem better but LSU repeatedly stepped on it’s own dick. Just a shitty game.

New coach and Katrina obviously fricked things up,

Even if he had stayed, I doubt Lil’ Nicky could have managed it any better. At least he left a loaded roster!

Never miss a chance to throw shite at Les Miles, huh?

In his first yer as coach fall cam p was interrupted by Katrina, many players families lives disrupted. LSU turned into a triage center and morgue for Katrna dead. Players volunteering with medical care.

The schedule was disrupted and games moved to scheduled open dates. They played 11 weeks in a row and won the SEC West. By the time they arrived in Atlanta for the SEC title game the team was running on fumes. But yeah, another season ruined by Les Miles.

Comments like yours make me so angry. You need to apologize to the Tiger Nation for even making this comment.

Yeah, it was ashame we lost to Tennessee but considering the Katrina crap and having no bye weeks plus a new staff, 11-2 was good. With a chance to rest, LSU could’ve beaten UGA. We finally got to see a rested team against Miami.

After going through what they did right before the season, shifting gears and flying out to Arizona to play the opener, an adrenalized Tiger team playing on sheer emotion exploded to a 21 point halftime lead. During the halftime break it suddenly all disappeared and the team hit the wall. A decent but less talented Tennessee team came back in the second half to pull out the win. Had this team played its season as scheduled it likely played for the national championship that season.

Don’t forget Fats Domino was sleeping on our QBs couch.

Helicopters were flying every 15 min over the practice field bringing people the the PMAC/ mash hospital.

Tenn was a Monday night game- Fulmer was scared to come to BR because of anarchy in NO.

I’m not getting into the conspiracy theory weeks like you, but Saban at LSU was not Saban at Bama. One, after his NFL stint, I think he learned a lot and just became a better overall coach. But two, he does get way more benefit of the doubt at Bama than he would have at LSU.

I don’t think he would have handled ‘05 as well as Les. We may have finished with the same record, but I don’t think we would have been as proud of that team. And remember, ‘03 was the only year in his 5 at LSU that Saban lost less than 6 games. I’m not sure he could have done anything about that Florida loss. After that fumble, it just wasn’t our day. Auburn would have been interesting. Jimbo was still the OC for Les that year, and Saban was just as capable back then of going conservative on offense, but maybe his overall football IQ would have seen something to exploit, would have turned Jamarcus loose earlier.

The schedule that year was brutal with all those road games. I’ll give Nick the benefit of the doubt and say he’d have figured out a way to edge Auburn on the Plains. And we were skull-fricking Florida in a rematch in Atlanta and Ohio State wherever that game was played. I truly think we were the best team in the country that year. But, if and buts and all that. And Saban had already left us for the Dolphins.

Yeah, I lend no credence to the Katrina excuse, up 21 points Pellini IMHO had poor strategy that game giving big cushions to their receivers when Clausen couldn't throw 20 yards. Let him dink and dunk with short passes wearing out our defense.

2005-2006, with a Joe Brady offense? No probably still not as good as 2019 but would’ve been awesome. 2006 would’ve easily won the NC.
