My complaints have nothing to do with my job. My complaint is with people who think everyone can just up and get season tickets and that anyone who doesn’t have them is less of a fan.

I’m not saying I wish I could go to more games. I’m saying I wish the games I can go to would be more convenient to attend

Well, not to kill this argument but LSU tailgating was at it's best when the stadium held 92K. They added right at 10K seats and took parking away all over campus. Then the few free lots are slowly becoming reserved lots every year.

It seems like this was clearly the "sweet spot" of Tiger Stadium capacity at LSU. They really should have resisted the idea of expanding beyond that to keep up with some silly stadium size arms race, and just spent the money improving amenities instead.

It really was. LSU hasn't had a true, asses in the seats sell out since the SEZ expansion. They outkicked their coverage so to speak.

For big games you’ve got to get there much much earlier than 3 hours before the gates open. It’s been that way forever.

That could be mitigated a bit by opening up the reserved lots that are routinely empty to free parking. Rather than making it better...LSU makes it worse literally every season by taking more and more free parking away and forcing people to get there earlier and earlier.

I usually drive to the hotel and have a bike in my truck. I park at the hotel, and bike over to the stadium and tailgate for a bit and then go to the game.
Kinda loser but it’s hassle free and I don’t worry about dui

I gave up tailgating a few years ago for the same reasons in the article. Now, I pay $20 to park on Highland by the north gates. For the not so big games i can get there between 2 and 3. For the big games, I park the night before and have someone drop us off or uber as close as we can get. We go sit at Buffalo Wild Wings if we can get in and have a few drinks and wings. Usually go and visit people on the way to the stadium. The traffic on Highland north to downtown is not bad at all. I can be from my parking to I-110 at government in about 15-20 minutes.

A lot of schools are experiencing buyer's remorse over this. Nobody saw the bubble bursting, but it did with the quickness.

Lot of $ for parking when you arrive 4-5 hours before a game and the lot is full. Tailgating has been wrecked. From 12 to 8 to 4 to ZERO Season tickets over the last decade. Walked 2 seasons ago and never looked back.
Gameday to and then back home from the stadium has become a miserable experience. Add that to losing tailgate spaces at CEBA and Freak it, turn the TV on.
Anybody that wants tickets can easily get them again this season. LSU still has plenty of 3 or 4 game packages right now.

We had large tailgate by Coates Hall for over 20 years that I gave up 3 years ago. Just too much time, money and effort to be there on Friday evenings before big games or Saturday 6 am because if you have 200 people showing up you have to get the "green space" on first come, first serve" basis regardless of how many 600 parking spots in the lot your group has purchased.

For us it was simply an "it's run its course issue." I'm sure there are similar groups that are just getting started and replacing those of us that are just too old and tired to keep the production going. Hopefully the group or groups that took over our space will be there for the next 20 years. Still have my season tickets, but let the kids use them and I watch the games on the back deck after a round of golf in the am. I honestly don't think there is anything the admin could do to get me back on that level again.

For us, it was being pushed out. Been tailgating since the late 80's. We had good locations along S. Stadium then by the music building. They made those paid lots. We tried a couple of other places and finally gave up. The first year without tailgating I was lost and antsy to get out there. Now, it's more like I better go if we're going to the game. Been having season tickets since early 80's. Probably going to let them go the next couple of years. Too much of a hassle.

Yep and the unfortunate thing is the bonds payable from the expansion will continue to bite LSU in the arse for the next decade, hence cutting off the yearly TAF donation to LSU. Thanks, Alleva.

So was I. There were entire rows in the East Upper empty. Some were gold chair backs. My group of 6 moved to empty gold seats in the 2nd quarter of the 2014 game. The 2016 game was worse. A lot of the tickets up by us are corporate giveaways and routinely have no shows.

Now, go back to the Florida game in '07 and we had people sitting on laps because the rows were so packed.

Just got an email earlier about the pre paid tailgating options. That makes me sick. Tailgating is such a special tradition at LSU and I hate to see it pushed out for the simple reason of making the AD more money.

Great read. Someone finally encapsulated what the LSU tailgaters have had to deal with over the last decade or so. We show up every year and comment on how LSU is making it harder and harder on us every year, be it in dollars, limited parking, or having to arrive at 7 AM in the morning.

I pray what Woodward will remove the foot of LSU off the neck of the traditional tailgaters.
