re: Interesting point about Tailgating...
Posted by 1985 Tiger on 8/15/19 at 3:11 pm to HeavyD
We had large tailgate by Coates Hall for over 20 years that I gave up 3 years ago. Just too much time, money and effort to be there on Friday evenings before big games or Saturday 6 am because if you have 200 people showing up you have to get the "green space" on first come, first serve" basis regardless of how many 600 parking spots in the lot your group has purchased.
For us it was simply an "it's run its course issue." I'm sure there are similar groups that are just getting started and replacing those of us that are just too old and tired to keep the production going. Hopefully the group or groups that took over our space will be there for the next 20 years. Still have my season tickets, but let the kids use them and I watch the games on the back deck after a round of golf in the am. I honestly don't think there is anything the admin could do to get me back on that level again.

re: Question for Tailgaters with Satellite Dishes

We use direct TV and have a separate dish on a tripod. We just get an extra box/receiver for the tailgate (6/month or 72/year) and keep it in the tailgate trailer. Have to reset it if not used within prior 30 days but simple to do. All you need to do is find someone within 150 miles of Baton Rouge that has Direct TV (either friend or someone else in your tailgate) and pay them to get an extra box for the year and then put a card on the bottom of your receiver with all of their account information you'll need when you have to reactivate it. Also picks up local channels for ABC/Fox/CBS etc.
re: Heaven got an angel this morning: SID ORTIS RIP

THIS!!! We lost our 15 yr. old son to cancer earlier this year. Like Sid, he was blessed to get to know the LSU football team during his fight. Jamie K. was actually a pall bearer and very good friend to our son. The Ortis family needs prayer from all of us to get through this unimaginable time in their lives. It is not an easy or short term journey. If the Ortis family is reading this and our family can help yours in any way, let me know and we will give you our contact information.

Good luck to Haydn in his recovery. We spent 19 months in treatment at St. Jude for my son. Words really can't describe what a wonderful place it is or the amazing people that work there. Les did many similar things for Parker, as did the entire LSU football team and administration. We are very fortunate to have this coach and the players that do so many things that nobody ever knows about. They get it is more than just a game and they have opportunities to put smiles on the faces of children fighting battles and enduring unimaginable levels of pain. Fight like Tigers they do. We'll be at the St. Jude Marathon in December as well. Team Parker has already raised over 50K and hope to raise much more. God bless you. We pray for families like yours every night even without knowing you.

Very special family and young girl. Our family was very close to theirs as our son is also treating at St. Jude and was diagnosed around the same time as Brea. We saw them last week when we were up in Memphis for treatment. St. Jude is an amazing place and, as a beneficiary, I can promise everyone there is no better place on earth to give your money. They treat the patient and the entire family. So many families from Louisiana are treated there. Sometimes it looks like an LSU tailgate with so much purple and gold being worn.

Parking spots are available in the garage behind Barnes and Noble. Costs is 145 (135 plus 10 handling fee)for season if you buy all 7 games in advance. Guaranteed to have spot for all games. People in our tailgate are buying these and will just walk to Coates with a rolling icechest. You can order online at www.lsusports.net

I called the ticket office. I was able to get one for the Coates lot. It was 600 for the year. He did tell me today that I could also buy one for 500 a year in Pleasant lot. I know it's also based on your priority points because he said my number was high enough to qualify me for either lot. He told me that I got the last one for Coates and he didn't say how many were left for Pleasant.

We were right across from you on the corner of Coates on the Boyd side. Going to be a lot of people that show up for first game in that area and have no clue that changes have been made.

Would love to be able to reserve an area and our group would be willing to pay for it. I just feel like they are trying to make it so difficult to have a large tailgate. A table, couple of chairs, TV and box of chicken is ok, but with tailgates our size that have grown over the years, I don't want to have to pack and unpack tents, generators, TVs, tables, sound systems, ice chests, etc. every week into a rental van. That was whole point of investing in tailgate trailer. Those of us that live out of town, can't be in BTR every Friday evening at 4 or 5 to set up a tailgate and park our vehicles/trailers in the few available spots.

Yep, and probably sold the passes to people who don't even tailgate. Going to push lots of tailgaters to parade grounds and not enough parking spots around parade grounds to accommodate.

Thanks and I agree but ticket office person told me that I couldn't park trailer in spot. I was wondering what other people in reserve spots did with trailers. Do they park them there or will campus police tow them if left unhooked to a vehicle.

Was able to get one parking pass for Coates lot. Does anyone know how trailers work in the reserved lots? Can you park your trailer in the space and park the truck elsewhere? Do you have to park a vehicle in the spot and park the trailer elsewhere, which is going to mean I have to carry all the stuff from the trailer to the tailgate spot to set up and then back to trailer after game is over. This really sucks

Don't know. I'm on phone with ticket office now. I have 7 family tailgate that has been setting up there for years. Have 150 to 250 people come through each week. If I can't get passes, will either shut it down or find another spot probably on the parade grounds.

Just received season tickets and looking at gameday parking map, it looks like all the "game by game parking" around parade grounds and Tower is now reserved. We have tailgated by Coates Hall for close to 20 years and it looks like that lot is also marked as reserved now. Is this area no longer going to be available by paying 40 for vehicle and 50 for trailer? Anyone know anything about this?

Maybe she will know who you are from your description. Yes she is a keeper. 27 years and 5 kids. Thanks for the prayers. Not even your initials to give her a hint?

Athletes for some reason are very compassionate in these situations. Parker has met numerous professional athletes at St. Jude in Memphis, as well as Ole Miss baseball players, LSU women's tennis team, signed baseballs and jerseys sent by many professional ballplayers, etc. Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

Yep, really special of them. Unfortunately, Parker has had numerous extended stays in the hospital. He's been visited multiple times by several LSU players. They've given him shirts or other items they've earned from team for special plays, etc. He has phone numbers and gets insta grams from them on a regular basis. Can't thank these young men enough for helping Parker through this process.

We always hear about the bad things college athletes do. I don't post much on here, but thought this was worth posting. These two young men made my son's day yesterday when they visited him at a chemo treatment. Not a first visit either, this one just made the news (WBRZ). It was the hospital's idea to call the news, not either one of the young men. They didn't do it for the publicity. Took him to lunch and hung out with him for a couple of hours. Several players from the team have gone above and beyond to make this journey special for him. Story begins around 27:25 of newscast. LINK
