I wasn’t ever a big Les fan. Especially after the 2008 season. We waited too long. It was obvious and likely started showing in the 2007 season. Great talent, poor coaching especially critical clock management. He was fortunate to have LA talent.

While I will admit Miles made me frustrated at times, some games were much closer than they should've been, you have to give credit to him for what he accomplished here. He won a natty, got to another one. He's the only LSU coach that beat Saban more than once. As of right now, there is only one SEC coach that can say that. Won the SEC at least twice. Actually I think it was 3 times. He is a very good recruiter.

I don't want this to turn into another Miles vs O thread, that's been discussed.

But even if you detest him as a coach, you should be able to give him credit for his accomplishments while he was here.

I think he genuinely likes coaching, that's why he took the Kansas gig. He knows how old he is. But I do think he'll do what he can while he's there.

I get that, Rickdaddy4188, I promise you I do, but some of the folks around here really cannot let go of Les. They remain fixated on the guy. He allowed the program to slip under his watch, there is no denying that, and I'm moved on from his tenure. I wish these goo hoos would move on as well.

Here is a good question to ponder. Had Miles been offered the Michigan job, he would in all likelihood have taken it. Who would have become the next LSU coach? I seem to recall Miles leveraged all the talk of the Michigan job into a lucrative renegotiation of his contract. Another Aleva screwup !

"Decent"? wow. "Sad that it didn't work out." wow, again.

So Miles would have bolted from LSU to go to THAT place?

Probably Rich Rodriguez.

It's his alma mater. I know you don't know that so your ignorance is excused.

LSU

Why are you trying to turn this into a O discussion? Stay on point or the GTFO

only because of a game cancellation in 2015.
we can chalk that up as a sure fire win since Miles never lost an ooc regular season home game(#1 in sec history).

so that would be 5 out of 8 with 10 wins

What ever makes you feel better, lil daddy

WTF is wrong with you? Miles is a great guy and all. We are all glad that he coached here but he should have retired after 2011 and everyone else would feel about him the way you feel about him now.

He was not a solid coach and it showed once Saban came back to the West and other West schools got better. Louisiana talent made Miles! Believe that!

miles was a flawed coach but so is every coach and imo he was held to a different standard than O has been.

That’s a stretch. The context is different. Both the Miles and the Orgeron hires split the fanbase and were unpopular. Folks wanted a change when Miles was fired but folks wanted Saban to stay.
Orgeron was on the hottest of seats from the pundits and fans heading into last year. He earned some points for last years finish. Now the bar is raised.

The win % says he's the most "solid" coach in LSU history and nothing you post can counter that.

Ok, I take it back. I just got mad. He was solid.

After 2011, he was no better than the 3rd best coach in the West.

Lots of LSU fans were sad it didn’t work out too, Les.

Les leaving after the 07 season would have been ideal. That it didn’t work out is sickening to this day.

Even if it was a slight at LSU. Les Miles has every right to take shots at LSU. The dude won a national championship here, was the winningest coach in LSU history, and he was fired in the most disrespectful way possible.

Definitely a split when Miles and O was hired. Majority of the fans may have wanted Saban to stay. But ask folks who worked under him or besides in the Athletic department. Ask Skip and two BOS members at the time. They weren't crying when he left for the NFL and was amused he asked for his old job back when he had one foot out the door in South Florida. There are a lot of reasons for that.

you have to be joking. the vast majority of his tenure we had one of the best olines in cfb.

In his last few years our OL was bullied by any DL worth a shite. He didn’t didn’t recruit and develop pulling guards, and he schemed terribly vs defenses that were better than our offense.

quote:

that's bullshite. you can disagree on how some people rank him but you dont have one of the most accomplished tenures in sec history ( during the most dominant era of sec football ever , turn around a Oklahoma State program that couldnt make it to .500 in 10 of the previous 11 years AND NOT BE A GOOD COACH. even if you take away 2005- 2011 his win % would still be 3r# all time in lsu history.

Again, I’m referring to his latter years. You can continue to live in the far past, but in this what have you done for me lately league, many considered him to not good. Post 2011 he was never quite the same and I know you can agree with that. Particularly after all the Lee INTs. He sent from the mad hatter to a pathetically conservative offensive coach.

quote:

how? 2 of miles last 3 offenses shite on anything O has put out

Cool- I’d venture to say this year will be significantly better than the vast majority of the Miles era.

We can revisit this after the season if you’d like. I was not on board with the O hire, but he’s made positive moves thus far staffing and apparently scheming. We will see how it shakes out.

And IMO Miles wouldn’t have landed Burrow with his offensive philosophy at the time. We were not a destination for QBs. This season alone could change that significantly.

“His later years” were basically 2015 and 4 games of 2016z

It’s like when people always say “he recruited guards to play tackle” and ignore about a decade of solid tackles.
