Only 2 yards per carry after contact for the season....this is so telling and confirms my opinion in another post. He actually runs to punish believing in his own hype instead of smartly avoiding contact and running to daylight. Done....Guice would have performed much better.

There may have been holes, but they were not open very long all night. Alabama's defense is just too good and too fast, and our OL was overmatched. If you look at that only run in the video, sure we may have had a hat on a hat, but our OL had been pushed 2-3 yards into the backfield by the time he got the ball. It was the same thing last year. Alabama just killed us up front.

On that pass play, yeah, he talks about Fournette cutting wide instead of up the middle, but if you'll notice, Foster's is squared up right in front of Fournette, and Fournette's momentum is carrying him the direction he went. He tries to cut back, but Foster is right there. And the ref getting in his way stops whatever possible YAC he may could have gained on that play.

this is 100% correct but wouldn't carry McElroy's narrative. That little bama shite bag

Guice > Fournette

I have thought the same thing all year, esp after watching Guide at the beginning of the year when LF was injured or recovering.

I think the pressure of Bama gets to LF7. All the hype, etc. makes it more mental than anything else. It also hypes up the Bama D-line as well. They all seem to take off after him. I don't think he was used correctly, and either DG or DW should have been in the split back with him, one for protection the other as the primary receiver.

Both offenses seem to play right as hell when the teams play. It's like they realize that if they give up a pick six or scoop and score it could be the difference in the ball game.

I also noticed that LF seemed to hesitate in a few runs instead of just hitting the hole. That's something you can't do against a defense like UA or LSU had. They're just too fast and strongg and the blockers can't hold their blocks for longer than a second or so at best.

Had LF just hit the holes or not tried to dance in the backfield, he would be much more likely to break one.

And the same goes for the UA backss or receivers on the screens, if they hesitate any whatsoever, they were going down for a loss.

So much speed on the field Saturday night for both defenses. That was the first and only game of LSU that I've watched for more than just a few minutes here and there and while I knew they hadve good speed and a good D, I didn't realize just how good.

The gap between the two teams isn't nearly as broad as you would think after reading this board the past few days.

Fair enough. We should not put LF alone on a pedestal when he runs for 200 yards, yet blame the O line when he does not. Cannot have it both ways. The success and lack thereof of the running game depends on both parties.

Fournette is a great college back, but I think his vision will hurt him in the pros. I think he's more Jonathan Stewart than Adrian Peterson. Vision is a running back's greatest asset, and I think it's something that comes natural and can't be taught.

Are you trying to imply that 4.0 yards per carry is better than 2.1?

He didn't find good lanes and the pass rush was not being slowed by him diving for three or four yards but there has been poor offensive line play all year which doesn't play into his desire for explosive plays. Bama did to the line exactly what Wisky did to them, exploited their inability to identify assignments until they became completely frustrated. He may have missed one or two chances to cutback but he did not effectively hammer the small holes and force them to look for the run first. He was hurt in the first game but really didn't accept his role in this one. I got banned for complaining about his play in the early games so I no longer bother pointing out how he refuses to punish the defensive line or how easy he has been tackled on quite a few runs

Not in Cleveland. I hope a team with good OL trades up to get LF7.

People keep saying this. Their running back is averaging 4.7 ypg and is awesome. Their backup is averaging 5.1 ypg. Their running game is good.

How does that confirm your opinion? That stat doesn't give you the rate he avoids contact.

If anything, averaging 7.1 ypc while "only" getting 2 ypc after contact suggests that he's avoiding contact and busting long gains.

Exactly what I said in another post look at my history, I know people think I'm nothing or no body and I may be to some but I know football and he missed tons of holes!! I saw it live and I saw it on replay. He was sick in the film room I promise you. Here's something else, I think he corrects it this week vs arky. He rushed his reads much too often when he should have taken his time and adjusted to their D. This goes for DE and most of the offense along with the play calling. GT

It's not that he sees the holes better it's that Guice lets the play develop and creates the hole with patience. Even if he picks the wrong hole at first he's very good cutting into the hole he should have taken. By then though the gap closes but he would have gotten 3 to 5 yards instead of 1 to 2. It's just the facts and LF pressed way too much and so did the entire offense. The defense was doing the same thing early in the year, but they have come together and are clicking. I think you will see the same thing with the offense this week and moving forward. This film is painfully obvious to me that we could have beaten bama with more patience and execution from that patience. Sucks but it's the TRUTH. Really sucks and I saw it live and I was a decent RB in my day and saw holes better than anyone but didn't have the burst to make it to the second level as some did. It's all about patience as a RB and setting up the D. The best backs are these types of backs and LF will either learn to do it or be nothing bc he doesn't learn. What's crazy is against OM he let the blocks happen then burst through, he didn't do that with Bama and it was really hard to watch for me personally.

As much as I hate to admit it, I was thinking the same thing that McElroy points out here. It looked to me like Fournette passed up several opportunities to hit openings in the defense. I don't know if it would've resulted in the long TD run that he believes would've happened. But there were more yards available for him if he'd run with a little less "anxious-ness".

I agree

Crazy to think if he turned it up field and hit that big play after the Etling pass. Stadium would have come unglued.

I don't think Bama had as much penetration in the backfield this year as last year. With that said, LF7 didn't have a full head of steam going into the line of scrimmage like he did against Ole Piss (the pissed off effect). I understand running patient and waiting for blocks to develop, but didn't work against Bama. Would have loved to seen LF7 and DG5 imitate Felix Jones and Darren McFadden with crossing action in the backfield.
