At some point working kids out everyday is not about a test of strength. The human body needs time to recover.
Tendons and supportive ligaments take time to develop and are slower to develop than muscles.
I read about players dropping weight or gaining muscle quickly. The rest of the body still has to catch up.
I would say historically Moffit’s strength has been to get players “NFL Combine Ready” but that plan is not sustainable without high percentage injury. I would say look at ALL our players over the last few years and notice the high rate of injury.
In before someone says something predictable like “Football is a tough sport” blah blah.
You can still take care of your body without the focus being on just low or high weight training. Yes it’s part of it but recovery is key.
It’s a problem at all levels of football.
I’m proud that many of our players are resting and recovering. Bummed that Kardel got injured but look at how much weight he lost in such little time? That’s a potential red flag.
Prediction. The kid who carried bricks in his backpack. Unless he spent an equal amount Of time focused on recovery that load will come back to haunt us.
It’s like someone who does 1000 AB workouts a day, did you also do 1000 rows to have balance along with deep recovery for both.
Hope I’m wrong but it’s here for me to eat crow.

Every team gets injuries. Bama already has 2 out for the year and their S&C coach is considered the best in the country.

I can't believe I read all that bullshite.
LSU is lucky that Kardel's injury is the only serious one. Bama, Tennessee, and Florida have all had multiple players with serious injuries

This post again reminds me why we need an above 12 year old age limit to post here.

Do you have any statistics to back up your assertion that we have had a higher rate of serious injury compared to past seasons or in comparison to other schools?

It’s football. Players will get hurt

IF Kardell’s injury is serious I’ll consider LSU lucky that it’s a true freshman O Lineman that’s unlikely to start until November at the earliest and not someone else. Bad injuries happen to every team every year, just part of the game.

This thread is ridiculous. I hate that we live in a world where people over react to every possible thing.
Football players get hurt. This isn't some new fricking phenomenon sweeping across LSU football all of a sudden.

Jesus fricking Christ. Do you not believe that Tommy Moffitt, Jack and Shelley have a plan in place at all times to get these kids in the best shape all the while making sure they can sustain it over an 8 month period? The same happens across the country at all levels. Injuries can happen at anytime and aren’t specific to LSU.
How so? Go look at players like Joe Thomas and Alan Faneca. Faneca shed all of his playing weight and now runs marathons. Is that a red flag?

while its true that tendons and ligaments might take longer to adapt to increased loads and exertions, this is really the case for people getting into shape from being normal every day joes that try to increase things too quickly.
every one of these football players is already very strong before they even arrive on campus. not to mention, they would happen during off-season workouts.
injuries just happen in football. as nick saban used to say it isnt necessarily a 'dangerous' sport but injuries do happen when 230 lb + dudes that can squat twice their body weights and run like the wind are grappling and colliding day in and day out.
it would be highly abnormal if nobody was getting hurt.

The OP probably mixed up football with our baseball injuries. I would never say LSU has more injuries and we are what you can consider normal. That's why you have depth.

So you think we should train and workout less? Let’s try that one offseason and see how we do in the fall. We’ll cut our current workload by 50% so we’ll have the freshest and most well rested team in the history of college football only to get our asses kicked and man-handled by everyone we play, dumbass. Also, give me some stats that show our injuries are at a higher rate than everyone else. Let me save you the trouble, you won’t find them.

Why do you say this? Have you not seen how poorly LSU players perform in the bench press? If he was coaching combine, LSU players would be pretty proficient in this area.

I don’t agree with the OP......but you do realize Bamas S@C Coach was taught by Moffitt right?????
