It isnt a situation where the freshmen are beating out walk ons and guys who have never played or played poorly in the past.

They are beating out previous year SEC starters in Blocton and McKinley. Green was a starter at Clemson in the ACC too.

Not sure why anyone would be worried about that. They arent just rising to the top by default, they are beating out 3 dudes who have a combined nearly 2000 snaps playing for SEC/ACC teams and all 3 of them have graded out at least above average to pretty good.

This is definitely a situation to be excited about, not worried about there. I'm pretty sure all 3 of Blocton/Green/McKinley havent suddenly forgot how to play this offseason. There's freshmen basically every year who standout to some degree

Great perspective. I know about McKinley, but not about the other two. Thanks for sharing.

Hopefully freshmen getting so much PT is lighting a fire in the veterans as well.

I do worry about defensive depth. CB/LB/DE. Not much experienced depth. We really need to stay healthy.

I’d rather start the freshman like we did with Will and Emory and just live and die with their mistakes. One thing’s for certain: eventually, the light is going to come on, and when it does… ohhh my!

While that would be great, I think it's a lot more likely that the staff is just trying to get them as many high level snaps as possible to have them ready. That's also a good sign and reason to look for great things from them...but I don't think they have passed up McKinley.

From my understanding, Carpenter is running with the 2's behind Umanmielan and Lamar Brown is running with the 2's behind Jordan Ross. Cobbins and Jaylon Brown are repping with the 3's & Jaiden Braker and Trenton Henderson are with the 4's.

Shanklin ran with the 2's opposite of Carpenter in spring and is now away from the team currently. Don't want to assume but could be ticked off that Lamar bumped him down a spot in the depth chart after he showed up. Doesn't make sense to me though because everyone gets 5 years now and no redshirts so it doesn't benefit him to sit out or anything.
