Because Americans are supposed to try and be better than that. We don't have to be xenophobic and racist. We can host things like "the World Series" because we can celebrate great players even when they don't come from our own country. I mean, we could be hypocritical bigots and keep out the other people and still call it "the World Series", but why would we?

Its meritocracy. Mens sports are reserved for the best, it has nothing to do with diversity.
The only thing wrong with wanting USA born players in the league is you lose quality. Thats it.

they've changed some of these rules recently, fwiw. More prospects are coming up due to incentives they've built in.
Even with that said, if Crews is as good as we think he will be, he will probably get a new contract long before he is set for arbitration.
