Most everyone is saying that things weren’t the same the last few years after his dad died. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t successful prior to that.

The crowds have been exactly the same.

Too bad coach johnson wasn’t skip’s replacemen
I agree but obviously JJohnson wasn't ready for this stage 21 years before. But Jim Wells was, but he turned Skip down. Mike Bianco wasn't ready to come back yet either as he had only had 1 regional invitation at McNeese at the time Skip stepped down.
Just be happy that JJ is here now because "the Intimidator" will have to be re-papered several more times before he retires. Damn happy to have him now and the painful memories of the past 21 years before him will soon fade from Tiger fans' memories as we start assaulting Omaha again on an annual basis.

Paul over corrected when they broke the game with the bats/balls/new park in Omaha. He watched UCLA win a National Championship by throwing belt High fastballs because you couldn’t hit it out. They were miserably bad.

Coach Mainieri won the national championship his second year at LSU.
One of those posts that makes you wonder

so I guess he had nothing to do with winning it all in 2009?

My two criticisms of Manieri are his desire in interviews to promote the SEC Tournament as superior to going to Omaha and his decision to empty the bullpen in the NC series against Florida. I get the latter was due to injuries but it always rubbed me the wrong way.
Despite that, I’ll never say Manieri was a bad coach at all. I just think he suffered the same fate as Les, where the game passed him by and he couldn’t truly adapt in time. Still he did very well during his tenure with a resume a lot of coaches would desire.

It was similar with Les when
…he started Jarrett Lee in 2008 and decided to choke the life out of his offenses after that.

Why? He would be long retired and what would we have right now?
