They made some tailgating changes after the LSU game last year left the campus a huge mess. Their AD is on the record as saying something to the effect of "the changes are effective, but we won't really know how effective they are until we get better as a team so we don't have to keep playing at noon."

Yeah no tents allowed, no grills, only tables 4' in length, etc.. Athens has been hit hard by the tv times and tailgating restrictions.

Local economies gretly benefit from tailgating and night games.

The amount of money spent on tailgating for a night game vs a day game is triple fold.

Good luck renegotiating that contract.

Are you going to do it pro bono?

Let me see if I can simplify it for you. Contracts are agreements. They can be RENEGOTIATED (look it up). This is done daily when a party gains an advantage or has an important issue that makes the terms of the contract unfair or not mutually beneficial. LSU has The Most Interesting Coach in the World and a huge fan base, which is why CBS wants to put it at 2:30 for any game with a pulse so CBS can make money from the broadcast. That's fine--we need to do it--but our number one priority is to field a winning team with a shot at a championship. We also have a TRADITION here that is really important to our football program's identity and our fans--NIGHT FOOTBALL. All of those facts mean we should EXPLORE how we can regain some measure of control over when our games are played.

Most, if not all of this, is pure homerism. LSU does not negotiate terms of the contract separately with CBS; it is done with the SEC as a whole. The SEC has TV contracts with CBS/ESPN that the members of the SEC has agreed to. What makes you think that LSU is against the terms of the contract? While you think that the contract that CBS has can be unilaterally renegotiated, the rest of us are enjoying our lives in the real world.

As an alternative, it would perhaps be beneficial for CBS to do more day-night doubleheaders. Why only 1 per year? OR, what happened to the days of ESPN getting first choice 1-2 times per year? Those are things I'd love to see. This delusional belief that LSU can renegotiate its own terms with CBS (we aren't that powerful, no matter how awesome LSU homers think we are), along with this delusional belief that LSU should/could just "opt out" and say "frick off" to CBS, are what make LSU fans just look silly.

Start our own network, so we can have night games.

The sad part about this is I don't see why CBS doesn't promote night games like ABC. Although I am not crazy about Verne and Gary, I like them better than Herbie and Brent.

I mean seriously, what the fuk comes on CBS on a Saturday night that anyone watches. They should move their games to all night games with a few day games, like UF vs UGA, etc.

I don't get it.

the whole 230 national tv argument is garbage. the 6pm ESPN game is on national tv.

HUGE difference between the CBS audience and the ESPN audience. Especially this year. LSU is in the best place possible for national exposure.

ESPN is averaging a 2.0 U.S. rating and 3.104 million viewers for its 29 college football telecasts through September 25, down 9.1% and 10.7%, respectively, from a 2.2 rating and 3.474 million viewers for 25 games at the same period last year. The net's primetime games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights have seen both ratings and viewership declines from last year, though Saturday afternoon telecasts are seeing a slight increase. ESPN2 is averaging a 0.9 U.S. rating and 1.492 million viewers for its 15 games, down slightly from a 1.0 rating and 1.630 million viewers for 13 telecasts at the same point in '09. ABC's seven telecasts are down 25% in ratings from last year, while NBC's three Notre Dame telecasts are up 38.1% and CBS' two SEC games are up 30.3%. Versus has had four Mountain West games to date, averaging a 0.3 U.S. rating and 435,000 viewers, which is flat in ratings, but down 8.2% in viewership.

I can only imagine that the CBS executives in NYC feel that they can generate more prime time revenue broadcasting their non football progamming rather than SEC football games.

Obviously the ABC executives prefer football to sitcoms or other programming.

We would all love to see CBS broadcast a prime time game every Saturday night.

Under the present contract it ain't gonna happen unless the contract is renegotiated.

Last weekend, ABC's night game was third in ratings behind CBS and FOX. CBS almost doubled the audience with re-runs.

Too many Yankees out there watching TV that don't care about college football.

Fire Les Miles, hire Curley Hallman, we go back to sucking, never have to worry about being on TV at home.

Step 1: Buy CBS and ESPN

Step 2: Schedule all LSU home games for 7pm central

Problem solved!

Only problem is you won't be able to afford the tickets.

OTOH, if we have the money to do that why not let the first 91,500 in free???

Need a ton of purple game day shirts with gold lettering that reads "2:30 Sucks" and then let CBS get some crowd shots of them during the game

That would be awesome

It is getting pretty ridiculous, we never play a legit game at night at anymore. It somewhat takes out of some of the intrigue.

CBS is not cable. so more people watch it.

Verne has put on a lot of weight this past year, maybe he is choosing to die by diabetes.

He's ok. There are surely worse.

I am tired of Brent, so Verne is ok with me. I did like when Brent said after the 1st half of the Va Tech 2007 beatdown, that LSU could play with the NFL.

CBS publicity > night games

I hope LSU continues to be on CBS a lot. It means it's a relevant program.

Why did CBS pick up the LSU-Ole Miss game instead of the Miss St-Arkansas game, where both teams will prob still be ranked in the top 25?
