I loved the way we would give Guidry one series a half when Hodson was the starter. It shook things up, many times provided a spark, and kept the #2 guy engaged.

I'd love to see that this year with LN or MB (whoever gets #2) getting a series a half like that.

Imho,Every time they took Hodson off the field when he was not injured, they made a mistake.

LSU is famous for using two QB system when not needed.
Bert Jones and Tommy Hodson should have never left the field.

A package or two for LN? sure.

A 2 qb system? Hell to the no

If you have 2 QBs you don’t have any

Let's bring back the Chinese Bandits and the Go Team while we are at it.

What worked 30 years ago isn't always a good idea today.

I thought it got good work in for Guidry but also many times seemed to help Hodson...I am for it.

You mean TH and MG?

But I agree it wouldn't be a bad idea to get both MB and LN some action early if both are capable. So much will hinge on what kind of production we can get from NB, CC, LF or anyone else in our backfield. I trust that our O-line with CJK will at least be consistently steady.

Guidry getting 3rd series in first half isn't what I would call a 2 qb system

Find the ‘86 and ‘88 Alabama highlights and you may think differently. When Hodson struggled, Guidry seemed to come in and give the team a lift. Usually, Hodson went back in the game and did great afterwards...particularly in the 2 aforementioned games.

What I liked about it was that it was planned. Not the famous LM "the game situation didn't allow for the backup to play"

QB's get hurt.

Hodson and Guidry were during my early years of being a fan, around the age of 10. I want to say that Guidry was more of a running QB but nowhere near a passer like Hodson.

The Flynn and Perriloux year was odd because Perriloux had obvious arm talent but his role was almost strictly as a runner (until the SEC Championship game when forced to play the entire game).

QB is the one position that is difficult to play two because the fans/media can over analyze the situation, which then actually becomes a situation if players start to sub-consciously think one is better.

the line below it you said if you have 2 you have none(i know its a saying)

If we had Hodson type qb play over the last 15 years we would prob have 3-4 more national titles

Yep. Both guys were prepared. I can remember plenty of times Guidry gave us a spark.

I could see LN used for inside the opposing 5-10yd line and certain downs/distances for run/pass option calls.
If the DEF wants to suck up and sit on the run, throw right over the top of them to a RB/WR/TE slipping out. If the qb has the run option (yardage) IOT move the sticks or score...take it. Make the opposing Def think about it and work on it leading up to game day. The right weight and balance could be additive to the overall offense.

Was never a fan. Which is why I put the "IMHO" part. And I'd point you to the 1987 Alabama game, which kept us from an undefeated season.

I agree. Give #2 QB a series per half. Keep him engaged, mix things up, and keep him from transferring. I bet Bama does that this year. I think more schools will start doing this do to softer transfer rules.

What they did with Bert Jones was a bigger travesty than Hodson. Hodson was a really good QB, but was the beneficiary of some GREAT receivers.

Jones was a GREAT QB and would have won a Heisman and could have won a NC with the right coaching. He was Hodson with a cannon arm and athleticism.
