re: I’m good with putting all finances towards football and baseball

It’s been proven over time that MBB had the second biggest potential to make money because of the lucrative tv deal. Not trying in basketball makes no business sense.

Right, sitting on the tv deal to get by is just embarrassing. Making the tourney pays out 2million per game. Last year the SEC teams pulled in over 34 million from the NCAA tourney which is distributed to every team so we don’t get the 2mil directly but it certainly gives a big boost to the program. The SEC is gonna get 13/14 teams in this year so there’s no excuse for is to not be there. The fact that we don’t care enough while the rest of the conferences is capitalizing on where college sports is headed is just pathetic.

Like Vandy in football, LSU basketball is going to get paid regardless.
It says above, LSU gets 3.4 million in basketball from TV/conference
Obviously LSU isn't "dropping" basketball. If anyone said that they are trolling.
The question is do you push all in to really compete. That is a minimum addition of 5-6 million for top players, millions for buyout of Coach, mega millions if eventual new facility.
We are going to make a million even if terrible and just exist. Can you recoup the multiple millions if push all in. It's a legitimate question.
Of course everyone would love it if we had some billionaire just signing all the checks and just make it happen. That isn't the reality like Dems thinking everyone just gets to have a "free" house, car, food, healthcare, etc.

So you go from calling me all kinds of names, for shame, when all I asked for was proof of your statements, to now making unsubstantiated claims that some kind of merch revenue would put them over the top into profit. Pretty weak there my friend.

Are you requesting that your funds go to basketball specifically?
No I'm saying I fund LSU athletics and have for the last 40 years in many and varied ways over that time. I've at times been a season ticket holder for all 3 sports but have been a season ticket holder for football and basketball for over 35 years each and my "I'm not" was absolutely stated in opposition to the statement as I understood it that men's hoops should be kicked to the curb and any money that was being wasted on it should be doubled down on only football and baseball.
That to me is one of the more ignorant and obtuse takes I've ever seen here and if you have to ask why you are not really looking at things logically.....IMHO.

MBB makes money due to its share of conference TV and postseason revenue. It has little to do with the strength of the team or lack thereof.
It’s not just LSU, MBB is the only college sport besides FB that makes money period completely ignoring it is leaving money on the table.

When the team is good the PMAC is packed vs drawing maybe 1000 if there a millions for WBB players then there is certainly money available somewhere for MBB. As for the new arena it would benefit multiple programs Mulkey has been pushing for it since she got here.

If it were strictly business, you wouldn’t put ten million into WBB, but they do.
I am saying that if you intend to spend millions on a sport, MBB is by far the best sport to invest in that’s not football. A school thst plays in the tournament will sell more tickets, more concessions, and get more tv money. Those are facts.

People think ESPN reacts to what the people want.
No, ESPN propagandizes you into what you should think is important.
If ESPN dropped basketball and started hyping baseball, the entire narrative would shift.

The issue with baseball is multi fold.
1. Outside of the south the major universities have issues with the season given timing and winter.
2 overlap with the NCAA basketball tournament which even non sports fans pay attention to because of mass workplace bracket pools
3. even small podunk towns have single a and double a teams that have more talent overall. Sure there is the college alumni part of it but with college basketball and college football if you aren’t near a major metro area you can’t go to see better talent in person. With the minors a family can go for a game for cheap, at a double A ball park or higher get a decent experience and not really have to drive to do it. They also will see more of those players on TV in the majors in less time.
Bottom line is ESPN cares about the bottom line.
If it could make them more money they would air it.

Men’s basketball is the only sport besides football that makes revenue would be stupid to ignore it. Football is the priority but it is a false choice to say you must choose either baseball or basketball

Get your shite straight before you talk non-sense.
You should follow your own advice.
The NCAA signed a $10B TV deal for just the MBB tournament
The baseball and the CWSis lumped into the deal for WBB and other sports

No, I said it would be stupid to just ignore MBB, I don’t believe he is doing that necessarily but I do think it is a mistake to keep McMahon another year
