Nah, I was mocked twice on the first page, and considering I was right, will continue to bump this all year to laugh at.

Gio is a singles hitter who strikes out a ton & is just ok on defense.

Half of Gio's hits are XBHs and he's not just ok on defense. He also hasn't struck out a lot. But, if you want to feel like you were right, then by all means.

Curious as to what slugging percentage you quantify as a max for a "singles hitter". gotta have a number behind it.

We talking you have to be Brandt Broussard level to be singles hitter (like .300-350 range)? Do you still consider someone slugging .400 to be a singles hitter?

Where does the "singles hitter" slugging percentage stop IYO?

I think anyone would agree Gio was a singles hitter back his freshman year (.333 slugging). Since then he's been well above .400 in his career in slugging.

Whatever Gio's is, it's a number above that. The number can change daily, as Gio's slugging % goes up. This way he can always tell you he is not wrong. It's the Lester Earl way.

He’s currently slugging over 0.500

He's currently SLG .006 lower than Gavin Dugas

I feel like this is going to turn into another Slaughter v Reid thing

It pretty much already has except Lester has no one to pick over Gio unless you count him white knighting for Bianco

Ya, and you will be wrong again. He’s a career .400 SLG and has slugged like .333 since you made this thread. His SLG has dropped 200+ points in 8 games

Unless he losses ABs and becomes part time he isn’t sniffing .480

I already conceded Gio may be the best option. He isn’t playing well enough to ride out, currently. That’s about all there is too it.

This is the same way you were “right” about Orgeron. I.e. even when you’re wrong you’re “right” because you’ll just shout everyone else down.

I mean I could see the build up, but also acknowledged the end too. Overall I think I was pretty fair considering the manner in which people disagree on here. I could have been a lot more boisterous over that but that isn’t my style anymore

He's better than just OK on defense IMO.

Good thing you weren’t because you’ve been proven wrong. Gio isn’t “Ok” on defense. He’s right with crews as the best defensive outfielder on the roster. He isn’t “just a singles” hitter. He’s got decent power, not spectacular, but decent. He also drives the ball pretty well to all fields. He isn’t a liability with strikeouts. His rate is right on par with Crews and Doughty.

Im not gonna pretend to have a dog in this fight, but gio’s k rate is 25%, Doughty’s is 21%, and crews is 22.5%. So not really the same. For a guy without alot of power, like Doughty and Crews, thats alot of Ks. Especially a guy with his skill set. Id love, if when he struckout early in a game, if the next time up he tried bunting for a hit. He usually has his good games in clusters, and same with his bad.

If we’re splitting hairs his HR rate is the same as Crews and Doughty. He’s driving the ball better this season than he ever has. And before anyone tries to argue, I’m not saying he’s on par with either of them. Just that he’s producing when given the opportunity.

If the trade-off for an increase in Xbh, a +glove on defense and +speed on the base paths is a 25% strikeout rate I’m in.

The notion that Gio is some scrub who doesn’t have a spot in this lineup is ridiculous. He’s not Hal Hughes.
