Why play the game if the risk is materially more than the reward relative to the CFP entrance?
Because schedule strength does play a part in the rankings no matter how much Alabama fans cry about it not being included and no matter how many LSU fans want to suck up to those Alabama fans.

If you want a power 5 team it would be much better to schedule wake forest or northwestern or Syracuse or Boston college.

Course we lost to an average or mediocre USC team so maybe we should just stick with playing the Toledos of the world.

that's great you want to be all macho and tough guy.

I’m actually a girl, so not macho at all. I just like seeing the big games every year. I also firmly believe that you are highly unlikely to back-door your way into a title. Yeah, you might make the playoffs, but you will get boat raced by the battle-tested teams.

Play the games. You’ll never win afraid of losing. LSU fans can be proud of a lot, but at the top of that list is that we have never run from a fight. We play the damn games.

Yeah, if you have the same record.

No reason to risk being 9-3 and losing a spot to a 10-2 team because you played a better OOC game.

There's a lot of risk and virtually no reward, other than bravado and pride.

The SEC was always tough but now it's a horror show. No one here gets out alive. Why add in one or two more powerhouses to your hell on earth gauntlet?

I'm not saying LSU should pull out of anything already scheduled. Stand tall before the man and honor your commitments but the game has changed. Those big OOC games used to be very important for SOS. Now it's all about not being 10-3 when another team is 11-2.

Don't be obtuse. This is a super easy concept to understand. You want to be macho and schedule powerhouses for absolutely no reason and play in the Pop-Tart Bowl then okay, bold strategy. But if you want to go to the playoffs and actually matter then get real. Be smart.

LSU fans have complained for YEARS about crappy out-of-conference home games. Now LSU is scheduling legitimate teams for home & home series, and fans don't want the games because the Tigers might actually lose.

I guess it's a knee jerk reaction to Bama getting left out. Odd that folks thought they should miss the Playoff, but now it seems to be a bad thing.

The committee didn't send any type of message whatsoever. Alabama got bumped out because they had two bad losses to SEC schools, not OOC teams.

In 2007, the precise reason LSU got into the National Championship game was because they destroyed Virginia Tech, making them the only Power 5 champion to beat another Power 5 champion that year.

Fans can complain about concessions, parking, traffic, weather that's over 75 degrees or under 70 degrees or an impostor tiger, but complaining about playing good opponents shouldn't make the list.

Exactly. We lost to a weak USC team, but in the end had we beaten them we would still be out.

I get the cupcake argument, but it would not have made a difference this year

All this run and hide talk about scheduling twinkies up front is hilarious. Never thought I'd see LSU faithful take that approach

They are embarrassing.

No one is scared. BK factually hasn’t won an opening game at LSU. Why continue to schedule these big games if there’s no real incentive? Committee has made it clear

Just like he factually will not defer the kickoff. You gotta work with what you have, in the case of BK.

Start scheduling lesser teams for the opener, and hope you can scrape out a win for a change. He has proven he's not up to having his team prepared for a big first game. BK is super predictable.

How many more times does it have to happen for you guys to start seeing the pattern?

bama doesn't factor into this for me. This is a knee jerk reaction to losing four straight openers to P5 teams. These games were scheduled years ago when strength of schedule and non conference games mattered much more than they do now.

Playing in the SEC I just don't see the value of playing a tough non conference schedule. Give me ugly wins against cupcakes over beautiful losses against P5 schools. Don't give yourself a totally unnecessary handicap going into the season. Let someone else deal the "good losses".

When did you start playing? These kids need cupcakes to rest their bodies from the physicality of the SEC.
