If you were Hess, would you go Pro now?

I feel like he’s better than where he got drafted. Also considering his stock went down compared to last year, I’d be thinking hard about it.
Next year he can solidify his role as a very good closer, or middle reliever. However, he loses leverage due to being a senior.
It’s alot to consider. Just wondering what you would do in his case.

He needs to go now for his sake.

He went in the 7th round....he probably won't improve at all by coming back no matter what he does.....now if he would have went 15th round or lower then maybe.

Yes. He will be in a relievers role next year if he stays with the team. Not a lot more to prove in that role.

He loses all leverage in the draft if he comes back. The perception of him being a bullpen guy in the pros will make him slip anyway (teams don't want to waste high picks on non starters). There's a 0% chance he comes back, I would say.

He is better than where he got drafted however he will make more money by signing this year and for that reason he will sign.

I'd go just to escape the Rant

Just look at where our seniors were (or weren't) drafted this year. It sucks, but there is no denying that having leverage as a junior is real, seniors get screwed.

Now, weighing some pros and cons, he probably won't be drafted too much higher than where he was (barring a totally dominating breakout year), so as far as immediate money goes he's either making money starting now or making money starting a year from now.
On the other hand, another year of development and training under Dunn and the staff would probably be more beneficial than the level of coaching attention he'd find in low-A ball. Not to mention, after the signing bonus, chances are any jackass reading this paragraph is making more than probably 90% of the kids in the minors. He's got a tough decision in front of him that's for sure.

Hess' career at LSU will be one that is looked back on with numerous question marks. Great competitor, and seems to be an even greater young man.
Here's to watching him roll in the majors soon.

Yes go now. He did great in summer ball with the uva pitching coach. Dunn has him so screwed up, get out and get some help. Kid has talent.

Let's talk about the leverage concept. Is it really weighted as much as people say? I agree there is some to an extent because of the "where else would you go" argument, but i'd be willing to wager teams aren't really looking at leverage when evaluating and drafting players from Junior to Senior year.

By now, he is who he’s gonna be. He will lose what littler leverage he has by coming back and would probably have similar stats.

What role would he even serve? Setup man? He's not as good as Henry, Hill, Marceaux, or Fontenot for the starting rotation or closer roles. Assuming we are at full health, it would really be kind of awkward for him to come back and be the setup guy after already being a starter and closer in the program.

Yes. I would get as far away from CPM and Dunn as possible. They have cost that guy some huge dollars.
