If you want to know for sure if McMahon is competent at LSU

give him a $6M NIL budget and see how he does next year. That is middle of the road in SEC spending. Miss State spent $4M this year and we are at $2M along with USC at the bottom of the league.
SO instead of paying a $7M buyout + another $2M for staff buyouts + $4-5M NIL money tthat any coach would require to take the job, just properly equip MM for one year and then make your decision after that. If we can't be competitive in SEC with $6M NIL, then fire him and start the cycle over again.
BTW, I didn;'t want MM but knew that almost no one with any credibility would take the job with NCAA sanctions not yet announced. So we were over a barrel bacause WW wasn't a good NCAA crook, even though he was doing the same things that every program was doing to be successful. We just pissed off the wrong people and NCAA threatened to destroy football if we didn't offer up WW. We should have done what Kansas did and wave a finger at them instead.

LSU basketball is dead.
Posted on 2/25/25 at 10:44 pm to LongTime Tiger
That would be the most NIL in the country. So you’re saying if we buy him a pro team and he wins more than 3 games he’s good?
Posted on 2/25/25 at 10:45 pm to LongTime Tiger
Who is going to give him 6 million NIL?
Posted on 2/25/25 at 10:46 pm to DaBeerz
Nobody, the most NIL spent this year was over 5mil by Arkansas. The average NIL for a P4 tourney team is between 1.5m and 3mil.

Dude gave Dji Bailey half a million quid to come here. He’ll throw it all at some midget point guard from Coastal Carolina or wherever.

Still not enough money to cover all the players coming in through the portal next year as half or more players on this years team will leave and be playing for a more competent head basketball coach somewhere else next season..

Exactly… I’m not giving a penny…. Meaning the average LSU fans are not going to be donating to basketball NIL. They will have to beg to steal from the football fund

Bailey isn’t terrible if used right. The problem is all of the collateral problems making Bailey a feature player has caused but that’s McMahon’s tenure in a nutshell.

I will give it to the AD. They were able sell a line of complete bullshite to cover for the fact they can’t raise the funds to buyout McMahon and end this waste of time.

I hope you’re wrong, but that completely makes sense. He went to big donors looking for buyout money and they told him he gave him that ridiculous contract, pound sand.

I think the team needs Bailey. What it doesn’t need is Jordan sears apparently. I never thought he would be All SEC level. But I didn’t think he would be as bad as he has been 2 of every 3 games. When the McMahon tenure is over it will be the story of how he never could find the point guard to run his system in the SEC.

What about the years prior and how we’ve ranked recruiting wise? At some point there has to be some blame on McMahon. Whether it’s inefficiency at building a cohesive roster, lack of development, etc
This NIL propaganda is insane… The entire narrative has a narrow focus on this season alone and completely ignores the entire body of work. It’s asinine. Not to mention it ignores the recruiting rankings which have been solid over McMahon’s tenure
But sure, let’s just give this guy who has done nothing to prove that he’s great a frick load of money to put him to the “final test”

It’s also fascinating to me how every other SEC school can find transfers from tiny little schools whose play actually does translate to our league. It’s almost as if other coaches can identify certain tendencies in players and tap into them to make them into SEC level players and our’s cannot…

Definitely not the OP. I doubt he's contributed $500 since their precious WW left. I'm sorry.... he didn't leave, he was F I R E D.

seriously who gives a shite. basketball sucks, Take that money and spend on baseball or football. Important sports.

If Matt Mascona said it… it
Must be true.
Must be true.
Posted on 2/25/25 at 11:32 pm to Madking
He’s not a starter in the SEC. If used right he’d be a 10th man off the bench. We got rid of a guy who shot over 40% from 3 because of him.

It’s the only other sport that makes money.
