A great baseball coach does not a great AD make.

How on earth could LSU basketball at the time make a wow hire?
Posted on 11/22/09 at 4:29 pm to drizztiger
yep great baseball coach but he has made our football program a joke.

That contract they signed was the worst business decision for LSU I have heard of.
The stars lined up the 4 downs lined up the players were great, miles made out like a bandit when all those teams lost the last week. He is a good bowl game coach though which blows my mind.

Del Rio was the perfect guy and wanted the job, but had to wait 1 and 1/2 weeks until the NFL season was over.
any chance he's still interested?

He was hired on the cheap. That's what LSU does.
Then they compounded it by paying him huge money for taking the best team in CFB and losing 2 games yet still backing into a NC. Losing 2 games because of questionable coaching decisions.
Now we're screwed. We won't fire him because is costs too much money.
Our 1 hope is that LSU football has become so huge and lucrative, that they won't be able to hold off too long. If he does anything short of winning the SEC West next year, he's in big trouble. If he coaches as stupidly as he has this year, next year then I don't see how they can justify keeping him because the fanbase will start to revolt. It's already happening.
First thing I want to see is if he will can Crowton. Clearly this needs to happen.

Miles was about the 4th choice for bertman. Was turned down by high profile chooice for more money than was offers to miles. If you think that the search process for Miles replacement will be easy you are somoking crack

Del Rio wanted the job but he wouldn't wait 2 weeks for the Jags season to finish.

And I didn't disagree with you. I just say he was a great baseball coach because he was and I like to say nice stuff about people sometimes.

Why is Del Rio the perfect hire?
What exactly has he done in the NFL?

Saban Recommended Houston Nutt, but that really hasn't worked out well either because Nutt can't recruit. He can sure kick LSU's arse whereever he is at though!

Blame Saban AND Bertman. Skip didn't put up much of a fight to keep Saban here. He just let Huizenga fly in to BR several times and sweep Nick of his feet. I remember Skip saying that he did all he could do keep Saban at LSU, but that he was only willing to do so much and couldn't/wouldn't outbid the Dolphins. I don't think he did shite. Nick didn't help by waiting so long to make a decision. We could have possibly had a chance with Urban if he would have left sooner. Now barring any miracles, we're going to be doing this all over again soon......

he had played the game with Saban and Sexton for 3 years, can't really blame him for the way it was handled

everyone praised Skip Bertman like he was a great AD but he was anything but.
He took credit for plans that were already in place before he became AD. He also gets credit for sending Nick Saban to the 'phins.

No OC in his right mind will come to LSU if Miles is on the hot seat.

quote:He's not cheap anymore. LSU fricked up bigtime by resigning this guy in the heat of the moment after the NC. Les Miles is laughing all the way to the bank.
And he got his yes man at a cheap price.

BUT he did get us a very fine ball park and sucked some of us dry while doing so. i wouldn't want ANY of it back as I LOVE PM and our new stadium!
